Pros

Decent discount on decent furniture, they will compensate you well for how insane the culture is.

Cons

Incredibly bizarre and very toxic work environment- upper management is hyper-focused on individuals who exactly fit a mold. I was told by one of the higher up's assistant to "play their game" or I would not succeed after seeing employees bullied into quitting. We would spend two hours a week discussing every fault of the three other employees and then proceed to micromanage everyone to oblivion. Other members of the leadership team were gossipy and used the guise of feedback to express interpersonal tensions. There is no standard practice and policy is ever changing. We were expected to give a 60 day notice for a request off, often receiving our schedules just a few days before the month began. The company is incredibly disorganized and inefficient, RH uses flashy "updates" to mask its failures. I witnessed blatant bullying, and discriminatory hiring practices. The "gallery" I worked in was incredibly understaffed and they would pass up qualified candidates because our Field Leader had an incredibly niche nit-picky reason for disliking them. I was told to ask one of the people I managed to wear makeup, and then was told a boasting story about how another Gallery Leader kept a handful of beauty products to offer to his female employees if he felt they did not look "elevated". Not only that, the company that owns jets, yachts, a boutique hotel (ECT) would not pay to have the exterior of a commercial building painted and expected the employees to paint the building on ladders too high to be safe. There were several instances where we were expected to do work (not trained, not safely) that should have been done by professionals. When we pushed back and expressed concerns with quality and safety it was seen as being "complacent" or defiant. Overall incredibly pretentious, laughable, inefficient, crass company. Great for a pay bump, however it will come at the sacrifice of your sanity and personal time.

Pros

One of the strongest aspects of this role is the autonomy. I’m trusted to make decisions that genuinely support the customer experience without constant approval from leadership. If I believe an exchange plus a $250 gift card is the right solution to preserve a relationship, I’m empowered to do that. That level of trust creates confidence and allows us to move quickly when issues arise. Leadership is accessible when needed, especially in escalated situations. I’ve never felt left alone to manage something beyond my scope. There is also regular voluntary overtime available, which is a plus for those looking to increase their hours. For someone transitioning from another industry, the environment feels more structured and brand-focused, which has been refreshing

Cons

The clientele can be challenging. Some customers assume that spending thousands of dollars entitles them to treat frontline employees disrespectfully, even when those employees had no involvement in the original issue. It can also be frustrating to hold a boundary with a customer, only to see it reversed after escalation. While I understand the desire to preserve relationships, it can unintentionally undermine employee confidence and consistency in standards. Because RH carries so many collections and product variations, the learning curve is steep. Customers often expect immediate, detailed product knowledge, which takes time to develop.
