Some good perks, but architecture is ancient, and lots of red tapes - Senior Staff Software Engineering SailPoint Technologies Employee Review

Pros

Good'ish benefit. Ok pay. Perks like free snack and soda and beer in office if you're local to Austin. Plenty of social events. Sales and customer support teams are very capable.

Cons

Engineering leadership is quite bad. Architecture is ancient, so is the core code base. In essence, the core business revolves around keep maintaining a customized data processing engine written two decades ago couldn't be fitted to properly use modern data tech stacks. Knowledge is very siloed, and lots of red tapes to get anything done. Internal documentation on core architecture is almost non-existent. If you want to know how something works, a meeting with the architect in that area is required to have them explain while they walk through the code themselves. All technical knowledge distribution is on a "need-to-know" basis, very difficult to learn anything outside the area you're working on. Architect level engineers are more interested in protecting what they've already designed and built rather than doing what needed to be done to make the system more efficient or cost effective. There's a big disconnect between dev and infrastructure where neither side really care what the other side is doing.

Pros

My teammates are collaborative, intelligent, and always willing to help. There's a genuine lack of ego which makes daily teamwork a pleasure. There is trust between management and engineers, and open communication and feedback is valued. Great work-life balance.

Cons

Managing collaboration across multiple global time zones can but a challenge, but with a bit of extra planning, everyone does their best to share the meeting burden fairly.

Pros

Maybe I lucked out, but this is has truly been my dream job. I was hired as a junior-mid level developer (not product), but my experience has been mostly in low-code platforms. I basically get paid 6 figures to learn how to code on the job and I get to participate in cool initiatives. I definitely feel very lucky and grateful and SailPoint's culture 100% contributes to my satisfaction. I get to work from anvwhere in the world, I get a flexible schedule, free lunch, free, good coffee made by a barista on-site, good 401k match, and my boss doesn't care what my schedule is, only what I deliver matters. It's the first time in my career where I feel like l'm being treated like a trusted adult and I'm so happy.

Cons

My experience has been heavily affected by lucking out with my manager. I imagine maybe other managers in the company are not as cool. Stock price is not looking great but it honestly doesn't affect my day-to-day work so I don't really care. Lower salaries compared to other SaaS companies, specifically for Software Engineering.
