Pros

There are many very professional people working in operations and it was a pleasure to work with them. It's gratifying to see the efforts you make result in positive experiences for your customers both internal and external. It is nice to know you are helping people in their daily travels. Riding the system for free is great if you commute using the train or buses. SEPTA has a very long history and at times it feels good to be a part of that history.

Cons

There is a culture clash at play within the organization and it leads to a great deal of aggravation with trying to get things done. The long-time veteran employees have the attitude that the way they've always done things is the only way to do them and are generally uncooperative except with each other. Newer people face a lot of resistance to good ideas that could change things for the better. There's almost no possibility of advancement or promotion. Raises are a joke when you actually get them. Your superiors take all the credit for your efforts when you make a noticeable improvement to systems.

Pros

Free rides on public transit

Cons

If you come in as entry level engineer the only way to move from entry level to higher level position is to wait the prescribed number of years, which is 2.5 years, even if you came in with experience
