Come for the benefits, stay for the benefits - Project Manager Septa Employee Review

Pros

Benefits benefits benefits. Our HMO plan is amazing and so cheap. Free transportation on SEPTA. Pension. Somewhat flexible telework policy (though this depends where you work- policy allows 2 days from home, but some people get more, some less). They finally have paid family leave but it’s only four weeks.

Cons

The nepotism is WILD here. You see people who are related to someone in management or on the board just get promotion after promotion. Or friends of certain get super cushy high-up positions with no direct reports. They do not care about their employees- both corporate and front-line. If they cared, they’d read reviews on here and do something. Proof they don’t read these: the CEO listed on Glassdoor hasn’t been our CEO since 2019, and only a representative of SEPTA can change that. The pay is not great (unless you’re one of the aforementioned favorites). They’re going through an evaluation of the pay structure but who knows if anything will come of that. We are losing good people left and right because there is just one person with a gavel in charge of compensation. They will authorize the bare minimum. And if a current employee gets a better offer somewhere else but wants to stay, SEPTA will not even try to match it. They’d rather you leave and then spend 6+ months finding a replacement, who will probably reject SEPTA’s low-ball offer. This place is extremely toxic. Most people are miserable and gossipy. It’s draining to work here. I know I sound like a disgruntled employee, but please know these opinions are common among many of the employees here. I have been treated fairly well here and still believe these words.

Pros

Free rides on public transit

Cons

If you come in as entry level engineer the only way to move from entry level to higher level position is to wait the prescribed number of years, which is 2.5 years, even if you came in with experience
