Pros
Pension scheme is about it
Cons
Shell is going downhill fast. Under Wael’s leadership, there's a relentless obsession with cutting costs at the expense of staff well-being. The culture now mirrors high-pressure investment banks, but without the salary to match. Responsibilities have soared, but pay rises are consistently below inflation. Promotions just mean more work with no extra compensation. Morale is at an all-time low. I've personally witnessed cases of burnout, emergency medical leave, and people feeling completely overwhelmed. Mental health support is inadequate, and people are too afraid to speak up. Return-to-office mandates are growing while workloads keep increasing. Many now stick strictly to 9–5 because the company offers nothing in return for extra effort. Senior leaders are leaving, and some are retiring early just to escape the toxic environment. What used to be a respected organisation is being hollowed out. Staff are exhausted, undervalued, and increasingly disillusioned. A real shame.
