Pros
I make loads of easy money from being in their creative network and doing their "partner" shoots. As opposed to work for my own clients, SmartShoot shoots are low-stress and easygoing, so it's a nice relief. All client scheduling/logistics/communication/complaints are off of your hands. Very flexible—you can accept or decline any job that comes up.
Cons
In terms of communication with the company (if any), the whole process can feel a bit impersonal and like you're a cog in the wheel. But it could certainly be far, far worse. Also, working with a lot of the small businesses, the clients/locations you work with can have quite the range of... pleasantness. There's the occasional cancellation or just general unpreparedness/lack of enthusiasm from the client, but you just brush it off and don't worry about. Still do everything in your power (within reason) to deliver good images. Yes, at the end of the day, it's one of those photography middleman companies, and the shoots might not be as fulfilling as shoots you do for your own clients. But bottom line—the shoots are fun, and I'd have made $20K less this year if I hadn't been shooting with them!
