Pros

The company hires people with little experience.

Cons

1) The company has a high turnover rate which forces counselors to facilitate more than the standard 6 groups per week and/or assume a counselors caseload 2) Group counseling consists of facilitating 20 - 30people when an effective group should only contain 10 people 3) There is very little training for the position

Pros

Working directly with inmates and passionate coworkers.

Cons

Spectrum is a horrible company to work for. They do not value their employees, growth, or take any feedback to improve the company or structure of programming in the prisons. The only people to grow in the company are those who never questioned leadership or cared to implement change - essentially 'puppets' that were easily groomed. When you have worked with several (over 20) different coworkers and all of them quit and left on bad terms, that's how you know there is an internal issue. Spectrum does not care about its employees and will do whatever they can to get rid of you the moment you start questioning their techniques. At one point, I was forced to do work in Spanish when I was not hired as a Spanish-speaking employee nor was Spanish my first language (I only spoke it conversationally) but they took advantage of it and told me if I did not comply, it would be insubordination. I was a Clinical Supervisor being ased to do my role and the role of a counselor for $1/hour more. After years of giving this company my all because I was truly passionate about helping inmates, I finally broke down due to zero support from management after seeking assistance several times with the Spanish counseling work (that was NOT my job). I left on my lunch break and never came back. My supervisor never checked in on me, nor did her supervisor. Truly an awful place, led by awful people who only care about profit and keeping the department of corrections happy.
