Pros
When Springer and Nature merged the team budgets were increased, which resulted in more free lunches and free bar tabs
Cons
Stop making ill-informed decisions at the top. Involve those on the floor, like we used to, and let them feed into decisions making. You won’t be able to please everyone, but with communication (which was completely lacking) transparency and honesty, the merger could have gone much better and perhaps mass resignation may not have happened. To those that left the company it felt like a complete lack of basic respect. There was never any interest in creating a shared culture or set of practices and we were told it was the Springer way or nothing. Redundancies should have been offered due to the nature of the change. The focus on ‘we do anything to deliver’ ironically destroyed the working environment and resulted in delivering of nothing for many months.
