Pros

- Great training - Met some great people

Cons

- Management is poor - A lot of micromanagement - Old fashioned business model, high KPI environment. Venn prefer quantity over quality - A lot of office politics - High staff turnover - Pretty much a hire and fire policy - Commission structure said to be transparent when in fact its the opposite - Have to eat lunch at desk - Only allowed 20-30 minutes for lunch

Venn Group Response

Thank you for your review. I am pleased to read that you enjoyed the exceptional training and social culture at Venn Group during your time with us. However, I am disappointed that overall your experience with us was negative. I would like to cover some of your points in more detail: 1. Your comments regarding our management are somewhat unusual. Our team-based business model and commission structure mean that it is in the interests of you, your manager and colleagues to ensure you are equipped with the tools to be a success. As we hire people with no prior experience in the industry, our management invest significant amounts of time in getting new starters up to speed quickly and are on hand to offer constant feedback in the initial months of their career with us. Our consultants find that this approach is key to forging successful careers at an accelerated rate. 2. You mention our KPIs, which are also a part of this accelerated development plan. In addition to the support of management, the best way to embed learning and increase ability is through experience. We make no excuse in setting out the structure of the day and the number of calls, meetings, training courses and interviews that are required, but as our staff develop then these targets alter. The structure then becomes dictated to us by the consultants, and our job changes to be one of support as we encourage and mentor them in their individual markets. 3. I am concerned to read your representation of our working environment. The atmosphere we foster is one of community and comradery, and our team structure means that it is in the interests of your colleagues to support you to succeed. The recruitment industry as a whole can have a reputation for high staff turnovers, which is inevitable when hiring new graduates looking for their first job. However, at Venn Group we are proud of the fact that many of our employees choose to stay with us for their whole careers, which is testament to the positive atmosphere throughout our offices. We certainly do not operate on a ‘hire and fire’ policy, because we invest so much time from day one into giving all new starters the tools to succeed. 4. Our commission structure has been simplified and made completely transparent since the introduction of our Pathways and Milestones progression scheme, but for new starters with no prior recruitment experience we understand it can be a tricky concept initially. We would always encourage our consultants to ask their managers if they have any questions surrounding commission, as they are best placed to explain it in a clear and digestible way. 5. While a career in recruitment can more demanding than other industries, it is certainly not a requirement that our consultants eat their lunch at the desk and take no break. In fact, within our London office we have a ‘breakout’ room with seating and kitchen facilities, to ensure our consultants have the option of taking time away from the desk if they would like to. I am sorry to read that you felt unable to do so during your time with us and would implore others feeling this way to speak to senior management about their concerns. We wish you every success in your new role.
