    I worked at Fast Search full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    It was a dynamic company. Had a small start-up, at least at the beginning. Good people. Good technologies. Treated employees well.

    Cons

    Once it got too big, it started to chase all kinds of crazy deals. Financial situations became unrealistic. People started to leave.

    Advice to Management

    Well, it doesn't matter now. But what the management could have done was to hold on to its core value and its start-up root.

    I worked at Fast Search full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    FAST was forward looking technology wise and was willing to spin off new groups to venture in new directions. The group I ended up working with was one of the best I've work. Although there was more travel than I would have liked, management tried its best to make up for the extra travel. There was a real sense that we all were moving in the same direction on this product.

    Cons

    Other than the unexpected travelling (and the financial ruin at the end), the sheer number of verticals being addressed gave one a sense that the left hand and right hand didn't always know what each other were doing.

    Advice to Management

    None at this point, since most of management has left since the Microsoft acquisition.

    great training and great employees. The compensation is first in it's class.

    High pressure. Not every company needs their software

    Senior Management has no clue about career plans/growth

    Pros

    Free trips to Norway, industry leading technology platform, training.

    Cons

    Horrible management, poor communication, unsatisfied customers. Microsoft has forced out a lot of the best talent.

    Keep your hands out of the cookie jar. Make decisions based on merit and not cronyism.

    Pros

    Steep learning curve with alot of opportunity to gain skills. Nice perks as well as good pay. The atmosphere of the office was enjoyable, with a seemingly fast paced buzz about it.

    Cons

    Lack of proper training and "bringing up to speed" of new employees. Many employees seemingly working independently, without the cohesizeness that brings out the best work in a group. The high turnover rate makes the team atmosphere lacking, if existent.

    Advice to Management

    Turnover rate is a good indication of what type of place it is to work. This should be an issue for top management.

    I worked at Fast Search full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Great spirit, great teams
    - Interesting, highly innovative product
    - Good personal opportunities, at least in R&D

    Although the company experienced several setbacks, most notably when it had to sell its web search division, the innovative spirit never ceased. Global expansion created interesting career opportunities.

    - Tough on sales and sales-related staff
