Great benefits...best in class; company pays 90%!

    Job is constantly in jeopardy...
Promotions are based on personal preferences, not competency or performance...
Leadership is like sailing in a rudderless boat.....there is no clear direction or mission

    Advice to Management

Clearly define company mission and objectives.
Implement a strategic plan and share it with staff.
Practice fariness and ehtics when making hire/fire decisions.

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

-Learn a lot about government procurement
    -Flexible work schedules
    -Decent benefits
    -Friendly people
    -interesting research

    Cons

    -very low salary
-little chance of being promoted into another department
-upper management claims that analysts are valued and important, but they don't really show us
-other than mini promos not much chance of making decent money there
-gets old doing the same thing everyday
-treat analysts differently from cde's...seem to value them more
-Working in Tysons is a pain with all the traffic
-You end up covering for people a lot
-Turn over is extremely high, someone quits at least once a month, they can't seem to keep anyone working there b/c the salary sucks
-They are always "reorganizing", lots of "layoffs" for upper execs

    Advice to Management

Don't claim that employees are important, show them by paying them better money
Listen to employee suggestions more, don't patronize so much
Stop hiring people that are ready to quit within three months or less
    Hire managers with more experience

    Pros

    - A great intro to the local IT and procurement environment (meeting players and systems)
    - Depending on your dep't., entrepreneurial spirit could be high and rewarded (position and salary)
    - Several intelligent, interesting and nice colleagues
    - A couple of nice employee parties per year
    - An annual United Way collection drive
    - Nice facilities and solid benefits

    Cons

    - Location - traffic and inability to walk and grab a lunch (it's an isolated building)
    - In 3 years, did not get a single formal, well structured performance review
    - Very high turn over (around 50% a year)
    - Very little structure and no formal employee development
    - Was praised verbally only to be 180 degree blind sided in writing a bit later
    - Some employees may have gotten ahead through inappropriate means
    - While on review/probation, received an email from a company employee that contained a virus that wiped out all my documents and thus made my project late :)

    Advice to Management

Honest and open communication in writing
    Much, much, much more structure

    Pros

Good experience. Bagles and cream cheese on Fridays.

    Cons

Under paid. Over worked. I worked during lunch breaks and only one bathroom break with "you're not doing enough work" attitude from imediate supervisor.
On my first day, an admin gave us 3" binders, told us to fill out the forms, and walked off. That certainly did not set the tone for a welcome to the company orientation.
Most personnel are 30 years old or younger.

    Advice to Management

Middle and upper management are clueless as to what analyst are up again. Give analyst the respect they deserve and compensate them appropiately, but not by underpaying them.

    Pros

It is a good place to start off. You learn about Government procurement. You receive an introductory level of knowledge of the Defense Industry.

    Cons

Work can become mundane. There is very little room for growth within company. This is not a long term position.

    Advice to Management

I think that if the workers were allowed to be on some type of telecommuting plan, moral would be higher. Give more respect to the analysts.

  9. "For career and personal growth, take what you can get and then move on."

    Pros

The HR staff is knowledgeable and friendly. There are opportunities to go to relevant events and work/report from home.

    Cons

Employees who have worked there longer seem bitter, more reluctant to change and disinterested in the overall objective of the company which only hinders the ability of the management to change things for the better. There are discrepancies in the ways policies are implemented. Compensation among classes of employees is unbalanced.

    Advice to Management

Devise a better plan for training and retaining employees. Implement some of the suggestions employees make.
