I have been working at First Student Canada part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good job for students, retirees, parents and those in between jobs.
No weekend or evening with (unless you sign up for charters)

    Cons

Viewed as inferior to office staff
    No benefits
    Low salary
    High turn over

    Advice to Management

How about encouraging and praising the drivers instead of always criticising them. Perhaps you'll keep a few drivers for longer. Staff not very supportive, won't answer phones or radio when you need them. Very inefficient.

I have been working at First Student Canada part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Part time workers working hours guaranteed , bus safety measures well maintained, company dispatchers fast respond to incidents during trips, pay date are on time.

    Cons

no benefit at all, not even provide opportunity to join group benefit on driver’s own expense, vacation pay not released to part time worker on each paycheck

    Advice to Management

Please pay drivers their vacation pay on each paycheck instead of waiting for them to apply for holiday. Company should not withhold this kind of payment on low pay job like this kind

I worked at First Student Canada part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They are a part time job with time to go to appointments or such. Also if you would like more work there is plenty of opportunities to do so.

    Cons

There management was a little mixed up and changing always. They show favoritism to certain employees and it makes it hard to for in.

    Advice to Management

Just have fair and concise regulations for everyone and enforce them. Also take the employees feelings in to account.

I have been working at First Student Canada part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Guaranteed to get a job. Love working part time. Drivers are friendly and hard working, good employees,

    Cons

Pay is by route and not by the many extra hours spent driving such as getting to the schools and driving to the yard. I am on duty 62 hours in a two week period but am only paid for 56 hours. So really working at minimum wage or less. Company has favoritism with longer time drivers. Can't get charter routes until after 6 months. Same old same old drivers getting all the charters. Buses always breaking down. First Student should update their fleet. Not enough good buses. Lots of old buses....less than 2009.

    Advice to Management

Stop favoritism, treat all employees like we matter. After all we are on the first lines.

    Pros

The Vancouver/Surrey company Corporation will hire you in DESPERATE need for drivers because people/drivers don't stay.

    Cons

This company is a typical corporation. The dispatch gets you to do the dirty work and lifting for wheel chairs and unwanted routes in order to protect their safety supervisor. It can be very clique.its quite possible that you will be used especially if your a hard worker for the companies benefit. You will be blamed for any accident that may occur. The buses break down a lot.

    Advice to Management

Stop being cliquey. Allow new bus drivers to grow in your company. Start fixing the buses properly for students a huge safety risk. Stop investigation of bus drivers. There are certain supervisors that just want power in the company. Safety is first so actually stand by this motto.

I worked at First Student Canada part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Free and ongoing training
Driving and non driving free training like CPR etc.
Can bring own children / grand children along

    Cons

Very low pay, your first pay cheque is a solemn reminder of why you should have studied hard at school.
No compensations / benefits / insurance

    Advice to Management

Money spent on training new staff, may be invested in retaining old staff.

I have been working at First Student Canada part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You get a pay check--but a pretty small one. Time for hobbies or family responsibilities.

    Cons

Tons of unpaid work. No pay for fueling, waiting for a mechanic on the road with a broken bus, washing the bus, sweeping etc. No opportunities for advancement. All full-time office positions and similar go to boss's favourites.

    Advice to Management

Don't play favourites when filling full-time opportunities. Just because you like so and so doesn't make them any more qualified than other drivers who have in many cases been there longer. Hire more mechanics so buses can be repaired in reasonable time.
