Pros

When the work was fairly distributed and clearly defined, the work was fine and engaging. I loved learning and helping other people in other related fields do good work. Some projects were awesome. Others had effectively the worst management communication I've ever dealt with in the industry.

Cons

Honestly, just run for it. I expected this company to live up to its word during my multiple interviews and delayed performance reviews. It took over 5 months to get hired and another 6 for them to start giving me real stuff to do. Everyone I worked with seemed uptight for the most part, and yet no one ever really defined my role. They used that to their advantage and didn't respond to my requests to follow up on original requests made during the first interviews. Even after working diligently to engage with the leadership, I feel that the leadership was all talk, and no action. My tenure was mentally and physically stressful and I have had mental health impacts from working here even just part time.. no one could give me a concrete reason for why I was terminated. I was only paid $22.36 an hour for work that they're willing to salary out at over 80k per year now. Even after parting ways, i feel used by them. They took advantage of my flexibility and willingness to learn and only ever criticized me for my drive. I was so thankful when it ended, but I still feel hurt. If i learned only one thing, I learned that I need to research who I apply to more in the future, so that I can feel confident that I'm doing with that benefits and doesn't hurt my community just because they're paid for it. Even the work they did felt to me like it was wolves in sheep's clothing sometimes

With an entry level position, training and learning take time. This is why we developed our career development and mentorship programs, weekly team check-ins and our 30/60/90-day reviews to ensure that communication, learning and feedback are at your fingertips. If your check-ins were ever delayed, we encourage staff to reach out to their team leads, HR or senior leadership team to check on the status of these meetings. Salary is something we monitor continually. FCS performs an annual audit of our salary ranges to ensure that they stay competitive. Finally, our Career Grades provide published paths to increase knowledge, skills, and experience that translates to salary increases. The Irvine location offers great amenities and surrounding food options are plentiful. Lots of exposure to many types of projects. Fun office events every month.

Cons

Learning curve is steep with little training. Pay is not competitive.

As always, we want to thank this employee for taking the time to write a review. We look at these as an opportunity for feedback and look into areas that we can improve. We have recognized the need for training of new and more junior employees and have created many internal and external resources and opportunities that any employee may pursue if they are interested. For example, we have "CEQA University", a six week training program for all new environmental interns an analysts run by an experience environmental and land use attorney. We have many learn-over-lunches presented by our in-house experts, and encourage bringing additional training opportunities to our attention. We record any training completed in-house in order to ensure others who were not able to attend can view the material. We are also actively working on expanding our in-house training system and opportunities to reach more senior levels of the company. We also try to ensure we maintain competitive salaries and have above average industry benefit packages. We do an annual survey of salaries based upon similar positions in the areas that we are located and then take into account career grade and experience to determine a salary range that is competitive, fair, and non-discriminatory. Our benefit package is also very strong, which a high company contribution rate, and includes medical, dental, vision, life, short-term and long-term disability, accident/major illness, and even pet insurance coverage offerings. While we certainly have experienced growing pains in the past, we are continuing to grow and develop our management team, training experience, policies and procedures, and other aspects of work/life to ensure a great experience for all our employees.

This review is extremely unsettling to FirstCarbon Solutions (FCS) for many reasons. No one should have to experience feelings of discrimination in any work place. FCS takes many steps to try to ensure it never happens here. First, FCS is a company that prides itself on ensuring fair treatment of all employees. To make sure that this occurs, FCS has established a Career Grades system that matches skills and education levels to specific career levels. Those career levels are then monitored to ensure that salary and compensation are competitive. This process ensures that race, gender, ethnicity, or other bias factors are NOT a consideration in salary or career advancement and that individuals at the same levels are paid the same, with limited variation for length of service and special expertise factors. We do regular reviews and audits of the program to verify that it works and is fair. Thus, all interns are paid at the same "intern level". Second, FCS has strict, no-tolerance policies in place for discrimination and harassment. Reported incidents are immediately investigated and acted upon by our Human Resources department and in-house legal counsel. We strongly encourage employees to report any such incidents, we treat all involved with dignity and respect, and we make sure that there are no negative "whistle blower" consequences. Third, FCS has an Affirmative Action Plan in which we actively work to ensure diversity and inclusivity in our workforce. As a company that works internationally and on five continents, we fully understand the benefits of bringing different viewpoints, backgrounds, and cultures to the table and how doing so makes us a stronger company.
