    I worked at FirstRand full-time

    Pros

Great self-starter culture where innovation is rewarded.

    Cons

Because FirstRand is made up of 4 different subsidiaries there is often similar work being done by multiple teams which leads to direct internal competition and becomes a game of politics.

    Pros

Few levels of management as well as owner manager culture allows for individuals including juniors to flourish.

    Remuneration including bonus is competitive

    Cons

Senior positions tend to be held for long periods of time with little opportunity for succession.

Employment Equity likely to become more prevalent

    Pros

    Great Culture. You have

    Cons

Most managers are still white, Afrikaaner Males. Chances are you'll earn lower than a new intern. You eat what you kill. Bonuses are based on race lines. Whites tend to get better bonuses

    Advice to Management

Transformation need to be addressed. You can't have a board that's majority white males in a country of black majority. Most employees are not happy with the status quo

I worked at FirstRand full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Fairly informal environment
    Opportunity to learn is ample
A huge number of like minded staff as a lot of CA's are operating in the bank

    Cons

Due to the fact that you are working for a bank it is a highly regulated environment. Therefore, if you don't like policies and procedures you might be frustrated

I have been working at FirstRand full-time

    Pros

There are so many pros, its hard to list them all. The group is innovative, dynamic, with a supportive culture. The company is always putting their staff first and making sure they are remunerated for their efforts either with tangible or intangible benefits.

    Cons

There is a lot of red tape, as is expected from a large financial corporate - but that's understandable from a risk management perspective. Audits are done continuously to ensure everything is functioning as it should. Training on the basic financial regulations like POPI, FAIS, and KYC is mandatory for all staff as well as training to identify anti money laundering activities.

    Advice to Management

The corporate is beaming with intelligent and creative individuals. I think if one vision for the group is driven across all its different divisions the company would grow faster and be more profitable in the long run.
