I worked at Firstborn full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Firstborn is filled with talented, smart, funny, supportive and compassionate people that genuinely care about one another and their work. As a result, there’s strong collaboration across teams and it’s a really fun work environment. There’s a solid mix of diverse clients and interesting projects, and the company’s focus on craft and emerging tech means that employees are always encouraged to learn new skills, take risks and challenge the status quo. The benefits package is also incredible.

    Cons

Like most agencies, Firstborn has to work with clients that want more for less and they say they want to be innovative, but they are actually extremely risk-averse. This song-and-dance can be incredibly frustrating, especially when good work is left on the cutting room floor.

"Such a great agency, I chose to work overtime everyday"

Current Employee - Art Director in New York, NY

I have been working at Firstborn full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Cool people to work with (seriously!) - Even cooler work on brands (Insurance, Soft Drinks, Alcohol, etc) - Get to expense Seamless when you work past 8pm - It advertising, what's not to love?

    Cons

    - Did I mention the people are really cool, maybe too cool? - Meaningful work helping brands sell products - Confusing hierarchy and many layers of management - very little pay for junior employees (makes it difficult to pay rent), when compared to the VPs and Directors salary.

I worked at Firstborn full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I worked at Firstborn for over 6 years and it is an amazing place to work. Tons of really smart people, great management that cares about taking care of you and the work, and the culture is unlike any other - everyone really is a family.

    Cons

Be prepared to work long hours - lots of nights and weekends at times, though this is getting better in recent years.

    I worked at Firstborn full-time

    Pros

Flat culture. Smart people. Good mentorship. Leadership will go the extra mile to make things work for you.

    Cons

Inconsistent seniority across different departments. Resourcing is sometimes thin. Not always the sexiest projects.

I worked at Firstborn full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Firstborn is one of those places that a lot of agencies try to be but just can't...and that's exactly the point. Firstborn isn't trying to be anything or anyone..they're just being them, and its been that way from the beginning. Firstborn is a work hard, play hard kind of place and has one of those unique cultures that you only come across very few times in your career...if you're lucky. It's not contrived or manufactured but it just feels authentic and like a family...but not in the sappy sense. The kind of family that respects each other but also doesn't take your crap, that pushes you to do better because they know you can; and in the end you can see that mentality pay off in the work that they produce. They also just renovated a new office space that very much represents this vibe, particularly with the addition of Firstborn Brewco.

    Cons

Its not a place to be if you just want to cruise. You have to be willing to work hard, put in the hours and make an impact.

I worked at Firstborn full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Extremely talented people who genuinely want to do great work together. Firstborn takes care of its people, operating under the belief that without its people, it has nothing. I always felt like opportunities were there for people to step up and grab, and that there was a shared accountability for not only the work being put out, but the state of the agency overall. Encourages an environment where ideas on how to better the agency can come from anyone. Strikes a balance between enough structure and process that things aren't chaos, but enough flexibility so it can continue to push the way they do things.

    Cons

As Firstborn continues to hone what its specialties are in an ever-evolving industry, it sometimes goes through periods where the work its attracting isn't the most exciting for its employees. Still some efficiency kinks to be worked out within the production process, so that team members aren't too spread thin.
