Typical Chinese Company

Pros

Management will give you a full assortment of responsibilities and duties ranging from a variety of different projects. As a result, you're immersed in all types of matters instead of working on one particular focus or concentration. This can be refreshing to some, or may burn others out depending on the kind of individual drive they may have.

Cons

As mentioned in the title, Foxit is very much like your typical Chinese company. The expectation to stay long hours each day is always pushed despite your work being completed. Salary compensation is a joke to say the least. There is definitely a big contrast if you're an Americanized person while working here. Mandarin is the clear official language of the office, and you will feel out of place and isolated as if you do not belong there. The company culture and atmosphere is quite toxic. There is no openness or transparency from management. It is quite black and white between working in a Chinese company as compared to an American one. You will feel suffocated.

Pros

Have the chance to learn everything since you basically need to do everything.

Cons

They might have some questions to you: - why leaving the office at 5:55 on Friday. - why failing to respond emails on Sunday during PTO from Friday to Monday. - do you know I can hire 3 more people in China if I don't hire you. - should stay online after work (to react some stupid comments on skype) .... Plus, a far below market compensation. After leaving them, I can easily change to another job with 25% increase in salary.

Company culture is misleading

Pros

Initially, very warm welcome from senior management.

Cons

The company takes advantage of loyalty, no matter how much effort you put in it is never enough. China team interaction forces longer than normal work week. Be ready to devote weekends to meeting with China Teams, believe me they will take advantage of your good natured participation. DO NOT GET INTO A DISAGREEMENT WITH ANYONE FROM CHINA, this is a death sentence. HR in both US and Europe is completely incompetent. Mistakes are plentiful, directives are misleading and often confusing leading to redundant work. It is not uncommon to encounter toxicity from employees, I believe most this relates to China however Sr Management contributes to this experience as well. It is difficult to know who to trust, no matter how much you try and help others, the extra work hours involved it will not be enough and without warning you will find yourself in front of your boss being convicted of not being helpful, being too confident with others, etc. The upcoming separation from China is a farce and should not be believed. China will never ever let go of Foxit International. No matter which country you are working in, China rules will always override anything you do. Without warning, finding yourself dealing with a China analysis that has nothing to do with European or US laws and no amount of discussion will help you. Work is marginalized if it does not conform to 'The China Way'.
