    Approves of CEO

I worked at Goddard Riverside Community Center part-time for less than a year

    Pros

-great employees -social consciousness -everyone is passionate about the mission of the organization -employees are welcoming -open door policy -everyone wants to help you move forward in your career

    Cons

-pay is VERY LOW -a majority of the employees are older so initially it is hard to have someone to connect with as a younger employee

    Advice to Management

You are all doing a great job. Take time to do things for your staff such as company perks. The program is great as is but I do understand the desire to take on more responsibility and be able to help more people, however, it is not fair for the small amount of staff to take on more work for the same pay, if you want to add more services provided by the program, you should hire more FT staff.

    Pros

It is truly like working with your family, you build life long bonds and although they have their downs for the most part they are good at receiving feedback and put it to action.

    Cons

Things can from time to time get a little chaotic but that is with any job. They always manage to get out on top.

I worked at Goddard Riverside Community Center

    Pros

Large non-profit with lots of schedule flexibility and lots of programs. I saw them be very accommodating with some employees. Good way to get entry-level experience in social services. Management is okay, with some better than others.

    Cons

Very large staff, sometimes strange alliances on the staff, and some long-time employees act like they 'run the place', and you have to adjust to them rather than compromise. Also very, very limited growth opportunities for non-Social Workers.

    Advice to Management

Bring in Seasoned Social Workers to run the outreach who understand the program and the population. The Scope of the responsibilities are too large for this to be considered an entry-level position, they need people w/ some professional experience who can work effectively and confidently with a very large staff and many clients.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Goddard Riverside Community Center full-time

    Pros

This organization has many programs so a review for one could be completely different for another. This review is based on my experience working in outreach. They attract good employees who really care about their clients and the work they are doing.

    Cons

They cannot hire enough people to fill the positions so the workers are left with too much work and not enough time. The clients suffer from lack of oversight and guidance of the case managers. this organization does not offer any training and employees are left to figure it out by troubling their colleagues and grasping for information whenever possible. There is no opportunity for advancement and management... positions are awarded to people based on credentials, not based on management ability. They have no review system for employees to give or receive feedback. The office space is really a horrible place to spend time, they seem to care very little about employee moral.

    Advice to Management

Please invest more in your staff. The clients will benefit and you will be more successful if you take the time to create a proper program with training, structure, and opportunity. The other organizations in this consortium are much better at staff development and retention so please look into their practices.

I worked at Goddard Riverside Community Center part-time

    Pros

The staff was very open and supportive; computer program was upgraded shortly before I left; supervision was easily accessible; and there was chance for advancement.

    Cons

Pay was low, I could have received more training along the way; one had to use public transportation in order to work with clients (4 or 5 a day.

    Advice to Management

Hire more experienced peers (or train them better) and allow the peer to travel on the company auto.

    Pros

Agency has a social consciousness and great sense of community. They value the population they work with and staff is passionate about their work.

    Cons

Salaries, opportunities for advancement(depends on program) can be limited, many of the programs depend on government funding-but most social service programs probably do.
