I have been working at Hussmann full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Plenty of opportunities for overtime. Offer benefits for union and non union positions.

    Cons

Lack of effective communication and processes. Managements sole mission is to ship cases on time yet do very little to change processes to help achieve their goals. Lack of integration between office and production floor employees.

    Advice to Management

Implement effective strategies to help accomplish goals and change company culture.

I worked at Hussmann full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

There are none...at least not anymore

    Cons

Hussmann has slowly ruined this branch since they bought Taylor ind out. I worked as a sheet metal Forman for them for nearly 10 years. When I started, they did every hy-vee grocery store. There was at least 5 2-man crews in the field busy year round and a hand full of guys in the shop. It took nearly 16 years, but they have managed to lose nearly all of the hy-vee work and are down to 3 sheet metal workers...for now. Fortunately for me, I saw the writing on the wall and quit over 2 years ago. I went to their competitor and have never looked back. Also, if you get injured here, expect to have to sue them and get the best lawyer you can find, hussmann will drag it out for years. Finally, id give 0 stars if that were an option.

    Advice to Management

I guess if u want to just have a warehouse facility in des moines, keep Jim mccrum in charge. He's done a fantastic job of single handedly ruining one of the best sheet metal shops in town. Way to go jim!

    Pros

Low pressure work environment with good communication company wide. Easy to befriend coworkers and management. I'm excited to get to work and help others out.

I have been working at Hussmann full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Hussmann pays a little better than average for the area, and you are given 3 weeks vacation off the bat. There is a handful of genuine employees that work there.

    Cons

Yes, it's the type of culture where they have to make up phrases like "Live it Like Hussmann" to keep workers motivated. Which make as much sense as their 7 behaviors for success. The key is to do the opposite of their behaviors in order to succeed. That means lie, cheat, discriminate, drive a bus over everyone, be prejudice, and blame others/point fingers - - - these are the true 7 behaviors for success.

There is not one competent person in leadership (or Hussmann Leadership Team, as they call themselves). They seriously think they do not need to provide direction to the workers, that the worker will just magically take care of things. The reality is the workers have been mistreated for a long time and they are all sick of it. Hussmann also has a tremendous amount of overhead, some departments could cut 50% of their staff and not miss anything except the bandwidth used to watch videos all day long.

    Advice to Management

Maybe it's time to take off your shiny leadership ring, roll up your sleeves, and start working. Everyone is tired of carrying you on their shoulders.
