I have been working at IMAX full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Fast-paced work environment with good perks (movie screenings).
    - Ability to work from home
    - Great learning experience about IMAX cinema technology

    Cons

    - Upper management is a bit disorganized.
    - Vision for company long term is questionable.

    Advice to Management

Needs to foster a better balance between upper management and all employees. IMAX needs to be forward thinking in innovating the brand and value employee feedback.

I have been working at IMAX full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice office/building, friendly staff, nice location, some movies sometimes (less often now)

    Cons

People come and go way too often, it shows that there is a low sense of loyalty and commitment to the company. A lot of people complain about their jobs regularly- it's like no one's happy to be there. We don't see movies anymore, we don't have social events. It's getting more stressful and people aren't motivated. Working hard is not rewarded- supervisors are more concerned with following the rules and getting approval from higher-ups! Where's the fun spirit? Where's the excitement for movies?

    Advice to Management

Stop over-hiring! Hire fewer- more diverse & talented/experienced people. There is a lot of waste- multiple people doing one job! It's frustrating and unproductive. Also, stop hiring the same types of people!

I worked at IMAX full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - free screenings
    - people are impressed when you say you work there
    - pretty good benefits (but got worse year to year)

    Cons

    - Never given any positive reinforcement or compliments
    - rewarded for throwing people under the bus
    - Low morale
    - they encourage you to learn new skills but then yell at you for not doing your job (even when you have free time)
    - everyone hordes info and power rather than works as a team
    - was told to lie to clients and other departments about delivery times
    - poor workflow
    - suggestions for improvements ignored
    - mistakes you made in the past you could never live down. No joke a mistake i made my first month there was still thrown in my face two years later
    - horrible work life balance. expected to live for the company. I was told to come in on the weekend just because "I hadn't done it in a while" i knew several employees that took separate cars from their family to social events in case they got unexpectedly called in
    - departments are pitted against each other
    - upper management had no idea of the workflow, process or how long things took and therefor had ridiculous expectations

    Advice to Management

Uper management - learn and understand your workflow and what everyone does in it so you can manage properly
Managment - create a team atmosphere where people work together rather than against each other trying to rat out the other person for a "good job"

I have been working at IMAX full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

People who work in the film industry are, for the most part, very passionate about what they do.

    Cons

The Operations team that I'm on is very dysfunctional. If you are not best friends with the Director, you may as well forget it and be prepared to be laid off. Also, there is a ridiculous amount of email, so be prepared to spend all of your time just sifting through your Outlook inbox.

    Advice to Management

Cut down on the us-versus-them personality within teams.
Also consider restructuring the company, so that we may do our actual jobs, instead of reading 23984573496 emails a day.

New York office is smaller than the Los Angeles office.
