Salary Is Low

Pros

If you enjoy working with and helping college students, their families and giving presentations this job was great.

Cons

The pay is painfully low. Especially, for positions requiring a Master's Degree. As a single mom I could not support my family. Bloomington campus controls wages and salaries and they think the cost of living is very low here. South Bend's cost of living is the same as Indianapolis's. I know because I have lived both places.

Pros

Tuition benefit for employees and children as well as spouse. Great paid time off and excellent health insurance. Closed between Christmas and New year's.

Cons

Low work life balance, low employee morale . Minimal pay increases for administrative staff. Facilities and faculty do much better on pay.

Pros

I thought there was fantastic developmental workshops, conferences, seminars, etc. There were great guidelines and goals, and I felt like I had a lot of help teaching here. I cut my teeth on teaching and learned to love it.

Cons

Low adjunct pay (of course- everywhere has low pay- IUSB was about 2,000 per class) nonexistent full time positions, although I was told time and time again that "maybe next semester" I'd have full time. I worked there five years, and during that I had ONE semester of full time. When Mike Pence (Indiana governor) mandated cuts in education, the college cut several (six or so) one-year positions, added one one-year position, and forced us all to fight for it by jumping through hoops.
