Pros

Close knit group of chemists, free snacks in the break room, solid methods, nice equipment and instrumentation, SOP's are easy to follow, cross training

Cons

Being continually treated as a child. When I worked there, we had to ask permission to go home at the end of the day, regardless of how many hours we worked. And then the manager would joke around and say we had to stay longer...what an unnecessary stressor. In addition to that, we were told we had to stay in the lab until at least 4:30pm no matter what time we arrived because the Director walked by the lab windows at that time to "check up on us." The low level of trust is ridiculous. There was also one member of the chemistry team who caused problems with every person they interacted with. This person would literally lay traps for people to get caught in, so that they would get in trouble for things that were not their fault. And for some reason this person was allowed to only work 6 hours a day when the rest of us worked 8. A completely unprofessional and toxic work environment.

Pros

None that I could think of.

Cons

The company hires unqualified and inexperienced individuals in a management role. Incompetent middle-level management, bad top management, favoritism. If you are a smart and knowledgeable scientist this place is not for you as it will be a threat to the management.

Terrible Company, Terrible Culture

Pros

Absentee management gives employees plenty of time to create their own opportunities.

Cons

Everything else: pay is not competitive; on-site employees are expected to drive in dangerous conditions or use what little PTO is granted during inclement weather; entry level employees are promoted to management positions; policies are constantly changing; there's no real training or growth opportunities; every department blames the others for issues. If you thrive on the social game, this is a potentially good company to work for. My coworkers were great, but there is a mass exodus across sites. Often times, people are leaving with no job to go to. It speaks volumes that people would rather be unemployed than continue working here.
