I have been working at Interface Engineering full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I've worked at three major firms in town over the last 25 years and Interface has been the best by far. Management truly cares about the employees. The work is managed well and the stress levels are low. There is opportunity for growth if that is what you are looking for. The work has been interesting and progressive designs are encouraged. The people who work in the Portland office are all real professionals.

    Cons

I haven't seen any downsides to working here so far after 2.5 years.

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen and respond to employee concerns.

I worked at Interface Engineering full-time

    Pros

    Convenient Location. Keg in office.

    Cons

They require long hours and don't give much feedback on work. You may think you have finished work for the day at 6 pm, but a senior engineer can ask you to stay a couple extra hours to help them finish their work at any time. They justify ridiculous overtime by paying hourly to low level engineers.

    Pros

Work diversity, employee events, interesting projects, flexible work schedule, nice view.

Word word word word word word word word.

    Cons

Organizational consistency, communication between teams, deadline driven priorities, varying levels of stress.

If I could fix one thing it would be the double standards and mixed messages that are sent from the top down.

    Advice to Management

Continue to support and nurture employee needs and work towards organizational consistency company wide. Engage individuals and remind everyone why we are in this industry and how important the work we do is.

    Pros

Very well organized and streamlined. The communication between teams and coworkers at Interface was great. This company has its logistics nailed down. The culture here is also great - hard working, sharp, intelligent, and fun people.

    Cons

Hours can be long. The workload can build up and keep you in late. However, long work weeks usually get balanced out by short ones.

    Advice to Management

Monitor workload to increase longevity in employees.

I worked at Interface Engineering full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Structured firm with 2-day intensive training prior to first day start ! Sustainable and challenging projects (if you are assigned to one). Plenty of projects in the forecast.

    Cons

Promises not realized. Poor communication of upper management and employees (yelling is normal). No annual performance review. non-competitive salaries. Some clients dictate the design for engineers! Long expense reimbursement process(a month is normal). Inconsistent work/life balance activities. As a senior engineer, don't expect to learn more than you know already because the expectation is for you to complete as many projects as possible and mentor as many junior engineers as possible instead.

    Advice to Management

Have an independent HR person to hear the employees concerns. Treat employees with respect. Reward hard working employees. Perform on time and effective annual reviews of employees.

    Pros

Interface has given me lots of career growth opportunity. They have great technology and tools. It is a fun place to work and everyone is super smart. We have really good benefits.

    Cons

It would be nice to work with other team leaders and project managers more often.

    Advice to Management

Please share more about the direction the company is headed in the future.

The people, not management, but the lower level people are great.
