I worked at JB&R (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The staff there was generally friendly.

    Cons

A lot of that friendly staff is gone either because of layoffs or they left hoping to get off the sinking ship. Also, there was a firm wide pay cut in 2014 and there was no indication that salaries would return to their previous level.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees, realize that they know more than you realize and when you don't provide details, understand that the rumor mill will just start up.

    I worked at JB&R full-time

    Pros

Flexible scheduling as long as you made up the time.
    Complete autonomy over portfolio/caseload management.
No one notices if you only work the minimum.

    Cons

Laughable low attorney pay for the market.
Little management/mentoring of new attorney. Was sent to court on my own after shadowing one CMC.
Competent employees are rewarded with more work for no additional pay.
No communication from Partners/management unless you're in the inner circle.
Layoffs began in 2014. Firm split in 2015. Former partners embroiled in lawsuit. Fear/uncertainty rampant.
Unquestionable loyalty expected but not reciprocated.
    Not a smart career commitment.

    Advice to Management

Communicate to all levels of staff, not just management.
Any increase in responsibility should come with a compensation increase.
Competent training and mentoring of attorneys necessary.

    Advice to Management

Listen to and act on employee feedback

    I worked at JB&R part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I liked being able to set my own hours, the pay was pretty good 11.50 an hour. It was close to home.

    Cons

The people who work there aren't very nice, and I wasn't there to make friends however. I felt like I had to pull teeth just to get prop training. I wasn't very familiar with the systems. I was given very little direction, and felt like I couldn't perform my job well.

    Advice to Management

Fully train the employees, make sure they know how to do one task before being introduced to a new one.

    I worked at JB&R full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I was there for more than 8 years and learned a great deal from my co-workers and managers. I enjoyed working with everyone. Things were good for quite a long time.

    Cons

Things started changing once the office was moved from one location to the next. Jobs were created and disbanded and then within a few years, the layoffs began. I didn't think it was going to happen to me, but it did and I was really shocked.

    Advice to Management

I wish things would have gone differently, but can now appreciate where I am today and have also gone back to school and have made myself a better, stronger and smarter person and have them to thank for that.

I have been working at JB&R full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, vacation time, 401K, bonus plan. This is a good place to start, but you probably won't make a career of it.

    Cons

Low pay, lack of communication, micro management, lack of opportunities to grow and advance. Bonus program was less and less every year with little explanation.

    Advice to Management

Better salaries, value employees more, communicate expectations better, give employees tools necessary for success. Listen to input from employees on issues and concerns

    I worked at JB&R full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The work itself keeps you busy all day.
Met coworkers that are very friendly and can be very supportive.
If you know how to text than this is the place you want to work.
You can text your friends all day, ignore your work and no one will say a word about it.
If you have children they are very flexible with your time especially if you are a friend.

    Cons

Training is a joke and you are left to figure things out yourself.
Supervisors have no idea what their workers are doing and cannot help most of them if there is an issue.
People that work the hardest are treated like they are not working and the people that are
texting or on their cell phones all day have nothing said to them.
Many family members hired which are the laziest people you ever want to work with.
Mass lay offs of full time, long time employees the last 2 years leaving a huge mess for the remaining employees.
No advancement unless you are in the supervisors immediate circle of friends.
Benefits cut for full time workers.
Part time workers with no benefits hired to replace full time employees.

    Advice to Management

    Where does one start?
So this does not turn into a rant start with the following.
Make your supervisors accountable for their ignorance and lack of knowledge of work that is given to their employees. Employees cannot get answers from their supervisors and many problems go unresolved leaving accounts unattended for months or years or the possibility of
    counter suits.
Good luck in the future of your company.
