I have been working at LJA Engineering full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

LJA really cares about quality work and bringing in work. If you want to get into Land Development, LJA is definitely a great option for you.

    Cons

They generally expect you to work more than 40 hours a week regardless if you are in a position that pays you for overtime or not. It varies by group, but I know people who have left because they want a better work life balance and other companies can provide that.

Additionally, some managers feel it is necessary to bring in work even if it isn't going to be profitable just because it is available. More carefully choosing which projects are worked on would reduce stress levels and reduce the number of overtime hours expected.

    Advice to Management

Growth is good, but work for the sake of being busy isn't. LJA would be better served by making workloads better than a few more thousand dollars in profits. That money comes with a cost.

I have been working at LJA Engineering full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, when it's busy it's busy. Good benefits, likable people.

    Cons

Not every group is created equal. Fortunately my group does very well, but I can only imagine how the others feel when it comes to raises/Christmas bonuses. Favoritism within the groups as well. Get on your manager's good side early.

    Advice to Management

You're doing great all around. Group cliques are inevitable and it's no ones fault.

I worked at LJA Engineering full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They were progressively growing during the time I was employed there. However, it depends on the group that you end up in. I was fortunate enough to work in a group where help was always available and they were always professional. Flexible scheduling is also a plus.

    Cons

Sometimes the work can be a little slow. Other times, can be extremely stressful. All in all, there was a relatively good work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

More social events to make all employees feel like one unit rather than a bunch of separate groups.

I have been working at LJA Engineering full-time

    Pros

Good company, but really depends on what group you are in as to how you will be treated and compensated..

    Cons

Some VPs don't care about anyone but the PM''s or PE's... if you are a designer or CAD be aware some will not even talk to you or will tray you with little or no respect..

    Advice to Management

get the VP''s off their high horse, have them realize without the designers and technician's theor job would be a lot more difficult...

    Pros

There are many experienced people here and you get to learn a lot from them. The ESOP Profit Sharing is also really good. 90/8 Work schedule.

    Cons

Job pay is on the lower end of the market but they are working on that.

We question if this review was left by an actual prior employee of LJA - it would be very unusual for a prior employee to refer to a singular LJA ‘owner’ as we are all employee-owners. LJA... More

I worked at LJA Engineering full-time

    Pros

Decently good benefits. Good people. They have fun events for staff 3-4 times a year, and birthday cookies. They pay overtime for engineer in training staff or below. Which, outside of Houston isn't too normal.

    Cons

Horizontal movement is like pulling teeth. A "face-time" culture, where it's more important to be seen then to be productive - not that people aren't productive. Cliquey amongst younger staff. High turnover in some groups.

    Advice to Management

Focus less on quarterly profitability and more on employee retention.
