    Pros

    Interesting work, great people, competitive salaries, competitive benefits. The work is very interesting and 98% of the people are fantastic. The salary and benefits are (at least used to be) on the high side for the area. (Disclaimer: Now that it is Thales, unknown if still the same)

    Cons

    If you are one of the "golden" people you are good to go - but if you're not...look out. Favoritism abounds here. If you are lucky you can keep your head down do your work and enjoy your job and the good people that are there.

    Advice to Management

    Get rid of top management that don't know how to manage and all the favoritism. Nearly of the original people from Harris don't know how to manage. They started the company and they're in the top positions by default, not skill. Now that it is Thales, hopefully it's being fixed.

    Pros

    Good benefits, some decent staff. BUT, be careful with the good old boys!

    Cons

    No strategy or vision Horrible leadership Terrible communication!

    Advice to Management

    Not much point in giving advice to the self-serving narcissist in charge, or the lackeys who call themselves senior management. The people you think you can't afford to lose are preventing you from building the team you need.

    Pros

    Work is interesting and it's fun working on something in the consumer market.

    Cons

    Management at this company is poor at best. Directors are treated like they are technical experts, when in fact they are lacking in knowledge of modern technologies. Management is barely capable of understanding the technology that they are managing and very little attempt is made to foster good engineering skills.

    There is little to no work-life balance and the pay is average at the very best. Yearly bonus is up to 15%, but watch that go away with the new owners.

    Advice to Management

    Try to have more integrity. Be truthful and take care of your employees, rather than take advantage of them.

    Pros

    Not making weapons or living off Government contracts like most local employers
    They employ up to date technology like C++, UML
    They take good care of their employees
    Lots of very smart people to work with

    Cons

    Leadership feels like a good old boy network.
    Suspicion of favoritism based upon religion/culture
    Too much authority given the technically deficient Project Engineering team, resulting in unreasonable schedules.
    Horrible unproductive open office environment
    They hire contractors for the fun new work, give the less challenging maintenance to employees
    They don't promote well from within, most managers are hired in vs being grown.
    Pointless random drug testing.

    Advice to Management

    Fire some of the worst VPs
    Promote from within
    Use employees for the new development work vs contractors
    Ditch the drug testing

    Pros

    Jet Blue flight benefits (which are now gone since the sale to Thales.) Decent 401k match by local standards, but 5 year vesting is a little harsh. Good location for the Melbourne area.

    Cons

    LiveTV has a very strange internal organization for projects and product development. The ends up created a very stovepiped environment. Parties involved with one generation Coupled with some poor software managers this leads to a very comprised development process and low quality products. LiveTV management is very cliquish. When I started at LiveTV they were VERY proud of the 95% employee retention rate. Now that rate is nowhere near the 90% level. LiveTV chews through software engineers like popcorn - just a cog in the wheel. Lousy "open concept" seating even for senior engineering staff. Only managers merit an office. Headphones become very important.

    Advice to Management

    Study good system engineering process. Do real requirements and system engineering - don't just check the boxes for DO-178 and then hack out some code. Learn how to actually estimate and schedule. (In other works, study the SEI CMM/CMMI!) Managers should stop pretending they are designers and just manage.

    Great product, great teams but nothing else

    Lack of vision, don't believe you'll be there long term.

    Advice to Management

    When you lose the loyalty of your team its time to rethink your business plan. Loyalty goes both ways not just when times are good.

    Pros

    Fly free on JetBlue. Flexible work hours.

    Cons

    I second the comments about being stuck in your job and no promotions within. A lot of religious bias in application process. Wage discrimination. Retaliation when people speak up. Dishonest management, but there are a few good men.

    Advice to Management

    Honesty is the best policy.

    Pros

    Fun, great culture, nice people, good benefits.
    Relaxed environment, cool products
    If you are the type of person who wants a good stable place to work where you can come in and do the same basic job for your entire career, then this is a perfect place for you to be.
    It is very stable and you could be here 20+ years

    Cons

    You will never receive any training. They very rarely promote. Just about always hire from the outside. Not very good about employee retention.
    If you ever want to improve your skill set or learn something new, you will need to do it on your own outside of the company. You will never receive help or reimbursement for any training or education costs.

    Advice to Management

    Offer your employees a reason to stay beyond just getting a pay check every two weeks.
    Offer your employees a future beyond doing the exact same job for the next decade.

    Cons

    Managers are do as they please with no regards to the opinions of Techs.
    No matter how much you do , Never enough for the Manager.
    Manger aways expresses how he is looking out for your job. So unprofessional.
    Manager loves to Micro Manage.

    Advice to Management

    The Manager should step back and let the technicians do the job at hand, which is to fix and maintain the system. When nothing is broken, that should speak for itself. No reason to have to "find " something to do to fill the time.
