Pros

-Localize will purchase any equipment you need for your home office including brand new laptop, monitor, etc. -The entire company is fully remote.

Cons

-Still very much a startup - no HR team -Offers 6 paid holidays which is unheard of -No maternity or paternity leave -Employees live in different states, so sick time policy differs for every employee -Requires employees to use sick time / PTO for any doctors appts or to bring children to/from school -Poor leadership with closed culture I had a few unfortunate and inappropriate experiences with the CEO which demonstrated his lack of experience managing employees. 1) 2nd week of employment, I received numerous accusatory Slack messages from the CEO at 9:30 PM. I suggested we speak the next day on Zoom as it's difficult to understand tone on Slack. He ignored the message and kept typing. 2) When I resigned I explained that I had numerous doctors appointments and would require reasonable accommodations in the upcoming months, so I did not think the culture was a fit. I thanked them for my time and expressed how much I admire their product / company. I did not receive an email response to my resignation or even an email back asking what the accommodations would be if I stayed or if everything was okay. Instead, the CEO wrote an email to the entire company stating that I "did not want to work a full 8 hour work day" which was 100% false & offensive considering I stated that I had a health issue. Employees were aware of my reason for leaving, so they knew the CEO's email was dishonest. 3) Turnover - another person resigned without notice right before I did and a 3rd person resigned without notice right after I did.

We're sorry the 4 weeks you worked at Localize did not live up to your expectations. Working for a fast-paced, growth stage start-up can be demanding, and admittedly it's not a good fit for everyone. We work very hard to ensure good culture fit during the hiring process and to maintain a positive culture for everyone on our close knit team. Despite the number of conversations we had around your specific situation, we regret that you felt the need to resign and we truly wish you all the best in your future endeavors. For others reading this post, Localize strives to offer a comprehensive benefits packages. As of this writing all employees receive: *100% company-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance beginning on 1st of the month after your start date; *100% company-paid $50k life insurance policy; *401(k) plan with 4% matching; *16 accrued vacation days, 3 sick days, and 10 paid holidays per year (not 6) *New PC, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and any other hardware/accessories you need to set up a productive remote working environment; *Monthly stipend for home internet; *$1,000 / yr of reimbursed expenses for continued education, conferences, or related.

Pros

I have been working at Localize full-time for more than 4 years Localize is made up of a team that's great to work with. This is in large part thanks to the effort the company puts in to make the remote/distributed team feel more connected. Lots of opportunity for professional growth. Unlike the typical "startup," there's not a sense of "must work 12 hours days to ship that feature in 3 days." While management probably works the hardest of everyone, there isn't a culture of extreme "10+ hour days" which I think has been an upside for the team. A lot of autonomy, ability to jump outside of the specific role, Management has high expectations of themselves and the team, so it can be stressful at times, but it has also push me to do things I never thought I could. Comp/benefits are on par with many large companies.

Cons

It's a complex service, and there is a lot of code behind that. Not necessarily a bad thing, but knowing the codebase fully and understanding the architecture completely is hard to do. The code itself is good quality, but there are many complex systems that sometimes take a while to understand how they work. Due to the company's policies (being an enterprise SaaS provider), there are some, mostly tolerable, security processes/procedures that have to be followed. This slows certain things down due to the culture of security-awareness. Not a great place to work if you can't tolerate following security related protocols, but personally it doesn't bother me.

Pros

* Small startup * offering 401k plan

Cons

* While the company is small and it is expected to be fun and interesting, it is not * The CEO is micromanagement addict * Legacy code, lots of poorly engineered code and you will not be allowed to refactor that. * Nobody in company want to take responsibility, because of micromanagement atmosphere. * Lots of useless meetings
