I have been working at MOCA Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Current Sr. Management have helped put the company back on track to achieve strong results in the future.

    Cons

Just like any job you have your good days and you have your bad days. Overall, good days outweigh the bad and with the help of recent changes to Sr. Management more good days ahead.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great effort in managing the company's future and continue to keep all employees involved and motivated.

    Pros

    1. The variaty of projects - it is never boring.
    2. Most of the projects are very high profile Federal construction projects.
    3. The acceptance and use of technology in the construction and facility arena.
    4. Co-workers are dedicated to doing a good job for the clients.
    5. Quarterly all-hands meetings are very informative about the company's status, pursuits and opperations.

    Cons

Not necessarily a downside, but a challenge - because of of the company size of less than 100 persons, it can be difficult sometimes to find the appropriate resources.

    Advice to Management

Countinue to seek new work in the areas of energy management and also look for opportunities outside of the Federal Government.

    Pros

Good projects that look good on your resume. I met my current employer through my work at MOCA. There are some really talented people propping up the fat at the top.

    Cons

Management cares about the bottom line, and crushing your soul. I mean they really really do care. it's all about the bottom line, (and crushing your soul).

For the most part I can only reiterate and agree with everything that has already been said in other reviews.

You really don't want to leave a job your even remotely happy with to go here. Chances are you will regret it.

    Advice to Management

    Where to begin...
    Observe good bosses.
Spend time noticing what the few successful managers in your organization do differently from the CEO. In particular, notice the way successful managers communicate with the people who report to them.

    Communicate expectations but avoid micromanaging!!!
You will probably notice that good managers communicate expectations clearly. They tell employees the results they expect, but give them some freedom as to how they achieve those results.

    Give positive feedback.
Successful managers notice what employees do right, and give them immediate recognition for doing a good job. This does not work in reverse, do not constantly jump down people's throats.

    Find a mentor.
When you find managers in your organization who are doing things right, consider asking one of those successful managers to mentor you. A mentor meets with you at scheduled times to discuss your challenges and offer advice.

Continue to develop your management skills.
Why not implement company sponsored management training programs or take classes on your own. You can also find some excellent advice in books ranging from Dale Carnegie's classic How to Win Friends and Influence Peopleto First, Break All The Rules: What the World's Greatest Managers Do Differently.

    Just Saying.

    Pros

The marketing seems to win jobs, so at least when you've been burnt out you often find you've made many contacts and are in a position to work at a more sane company

    Cons

Sellers over over promise. These promises are rarely communicated to the doers until the doers haven't delivered. It's a system designed to fail. But by the time it fails you've been completely burnt out anyway. Billable goals are laughably unreachable.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of most of upper management, and the board. Find someone who knows how to run a company not a sweat shop. Invest in your employees and they will feel invested in the company. And not just superficial things like "MOCA University." You get out of it what you put into it applies not just to employees and their jobs, but to the company and it's employees. If you're not willing, neither are we.
