    Pros

Fun loving team. Family environment. Challenging projects involving medical device manufacturers from around the world. Always a new challenge and customer need to meet.

    Cons

Customers are very demanding creating a fast paced environment. Always a timeline to get equipment to customers as quickly as possible.

    Pros

Overall - good group of workers. Flagstaff is overpriced, but it is pretty. College town, tough to meet a decent single girl that's not going NAU.

    Cons

Pay does not reflect the cost of living for Flagstaff. There is a "good old boy" network. Get in the club and you'll be overpayed.

Management does not use common sense. As one review states, everyone is a firefighter.

Common manufacturing practices are not used. Common precision assembly practices are ignored. Results are customer returns which cost the company thousands each month. No matter how much evidence is provided to show that correct change is needed, if it doesn't come from one of the good old boys, it's literally laughed at.

Flagstaff is a very nice town, but it's not known for manufacturing. If you have experience already and want to move to a western mountian town, try Colorado instead.

    Advice to Management

    Clean house of existing managers.

I have been working at Machine Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

At first, they talk a good talk. We has issues that needed corrected and the old managment group wouldn't even listen to workers worries. The BW people came in and said that they valued our opinions. They listened, and then ignored our warnings. Now, this company is more messed up then before.

    Cons

Their L3 training (leadership) is a joke. We nicknamed it "Buttkiss High". It's the perfect environment for worthless employees to kiss up to all of the "Big Boys"

    Advice to Management

We needed a complete overhaul of the old regime to make things work. They kept most of the morons in place, and have spent 10's of 1,000's of dollars on terrible designs that manufacturing said no to. No matter what we say, they do the opposite.

We heard the manta "We don't layoff"...they laid off 25% of our workers because of the incompetence of Management.

Too many companies pay better and give you the same crap.

    Pros

    Fair pay for position.
    Interesting Intellectual Property.
    Serves niche medical market segment.
    Global distribution.
    Intelligent workforce.

    Cons

    Poor manufacturing and quality processes.
Unrealistic time frames for planning, results in poor execution.
Dysfunctional R&D - lack of resources and focus for long term success.
Everyone is a skilled fire fighter.

    Advice to Management

Machine Solutions Inc. needs to find some focus and that focus needs to be around make machine that work to begin with.

Change is good, but not when it makes everything else unstable.

I have been working at Machine Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

People are not too picky about your work. Not too much overtime if you plan your own workload responsibly.

    Cons

Not a lot of team playership. Departments do not work together, but fight each other instead. Certain people get treated like gold no matter how sub-par their work is; other people are treated like second-class citizens. There are huge disparities in pay, not necessarily based on market rates for work performed. Upper management holds a belief that well-trained, experienced people can be easily replaced by interns or the receptionist.

    Advice to Management

Discourage finger-pointing. Try to organize projects in their entirety. Provide more leadership, rather than leaving the employees to work it out amongst themselves. That only leads to individuals trying to push others aside.
