I have been working at Method full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people are top-notch. So many talented designers and project managers working together, solving interesting problems we've never faced before. Thoughtful directors/principles constantly supporting and inspiring project teams to make amazing work.

The SF office is moving in a great direction. New workshop space, expanding variety of project and internal work, awesome new hires, and a consistently welcoming and fun culture.

Lots of support for career growth and opportunities to get involved in the design/education community. Opportunity for travel to NY and London offices.

    Cons

The offices can feel like somewhat separate entities, but traveling between offices for projects helps build a sense of community.

Support is there for growth, but it's somewhat unstructured (except for annual reviews) so it can feel like it's up to the individual to put themselves out there or ask for advice.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up! You've have done an awesome job shepherding Method into amazing places. Keep supporting the office and experimenting like you have and it'll only get better.

    Pros

A good place to build your book if you're early in your career. Good location. Free snacks and lunches. Good name based on San Francisco studio, certainly won't hurt your resume.

    Cons

Nebulous feedback means a lot of work gets redone or abandoned. Overworked creative leadership that is inaccessible except when they want to be. This adds up to lot of long long wasted hours. Very inefficient process overall.

Small office is a popularity club and a lot of backtalking. Not much room for personalities that differ from what's already there.

Limited opportunities for advancement even for those who absolutely deserve it.

    Advice to Management

Hire leadership who can inspire and bring some urgency and life into the place.

    I worked at Method full-time

    Pros

The project work is fabulous. There's a lot of variety of exciting work across many different industries. You get to do blue sky concept work for the most forward-thinking global companies. People are friendly, wonderful office culture.

    Cons

Long hours. Not a huge focus on employee value or retention. No clear long-term company strategy or executive vision.

I have been working at Method full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Smart, talented, modest people. Client work that many studios would kill for. No marketing work, this place is a pure product and brand design studio. People are trusted and given autonomy.

    Cons

There's something missing, a lack of urgency, of leadership, of motivation. No body is driving the company forward, so it doesn't feel like an energetic place. Shame.

    Advice to Management

Get an inspirational leader up top. Stop hiring print designers.

    Pros

excellent reputation in the industry which allows for the ability to work with great clients. beautiful surroundings and some really nice people.

    Cons

culture is too much like a club. the few at the top dont see the value in the others around them and some of the key talent has been there way past their prime. some producers are too junior to handle the responsibilities given to them. limited room for growth.

    Advice to Management

promote more readily and reward good people with incentives and better salaries.

    Pros

Close knit, extremely high level of talent present, collaborative, good place to grow especially if you are interested in getting a view into all sides of running a design studio.

    Cons

Sometimes resources are tight. Could be better at giving feedback and helping employees realize their goals.

    Advice to Management

Implement a better system for feedback, mentorship and goal management.

    Pros

Excellent reputation for cutting edge design - proven successful branding. Method is the real deal for those interested in design/branding - no Mad Men egos here - (ok there is 1 - but not in design)
There is an opportunity to build an excellent reputation in design/branding.

    Cons

Extremely quiet work environment - ichat encouraged instead of personal conversation during working hours - not enough communication with employees which leads to misunderstandings re; work performance both negative and positive.

    Advice to Management

More feedback with employees from ownership alone - not from mid-level management

    Pros

Method had a lot of friendly staff and cool projects to work on. They are also close by a lot of places to go to lunch which is nice :)

    Cons

A lot cool project equals a lot of extra hours. So be prepared to work a lot of overtime. Also the parking situation is a bit of a pain. You have to walk pretty far to get to your car and after working late it's a little sketchy walking to your car.

    Advice to Management

Parking situation could use some help. Maybe some kind of shuttle to help employees to get to their cars safely.
