I worked at MicroPact full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great co-workers and opportunities to learn
Nice benefits - especially medical benefits are the best
Competitive salaries and very good location of Raleigh office.

    Cons

All the plum positions are given to Herndon employees only. A person with equal or more talent in non-Herndon locations will have lesser title, pay, and recognition.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees from all locations equally. Recognize the talents of the employees in non-Herndon locations and treat them fairly.

I have been working at MicroPact full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible work schedule and the ability to work from home.

    Cons

There are no advancement opportunities and employee career paths are not well defined. Also employees are not truly empowered to make decisions and do their jobs without being micromanaged.

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging employees and cultivate a culture of rewarding top performers for their contributions and hard work.

I have been working at MicroPact full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Competitive pay, good benefits (vacation, health care and 401 all above average, Ability to work some days at home - helpful during snow events like we recently had

    Cons

Days are normally 9 hours or some time at night Regular weekend work is required. Ability to see my daughter is compromised for a good paying job. One of the worse payroll systems I've worked with and if they think you made a mistake you can loose vacation time or pay without notice.

    Advice to Management

Let people know up front about the long hours and weekends. I was told this was a 40 hour Monday through Friday position which it is not. I know plenty of people who said they were told the same thing as who;have worked more weekends this year than not.

I worked at MicroPact (Less than a year)

    Pros

Micropact has a great product and talented people

    Cons

They are a churn and burn company. They bring in multiple candidates in hopes of winning a big deal and every three months lay off dozens of people.

    Advice to Management

    Hire for need, not hope

    Pros

You will learn a lot and meet a lot of interesting people.

    Cons

VPs constantly changing. No career path. Sales constantly sells product features that don't exist which results in unhappy customers.

    Advice to Management

Hire an attorney to review all contracts and legal documents before anyone signs.

I have been working at MicroPact full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some very nice people and nice offices. Generally fellow employees are friendly and supportive. Ice cream socials, picnics, and social events are pretty fun. MVP program recognizes employees.

    Cons

Upper management is almost entirely male. Females are not actively supported or encouraged to seek management positions. Discrimination against women is an everyday occurrence in many groups or teams. Healthcare is only subsidized for single employees or those with families who choose the expensive high-deductible plan, so those who chose "good insurance" during open enrollment saw a significant salary decrease. Company does not do performance reviews on time, the pay is lower than industry standard, and raises are also less than industry standard. Bonuses are given to some employees in some departments and not in others. Paid time off is less than industry standard.

    Advice to Management

Support and promote more women, or at least discourage discrimination. Invest in employees by offering and encouraging more training and education. Show employees you value them by offering better benefits if you aren't going to improve salaries.

I have been working at MicroPact full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Casual atmosphere. "Work hard, play often, and maintain balance in your life" is a core company value.
    -Insurance premiums paid in full
    -100% vested matching for 401(k)
    -Offer Roth IRA investment option
    -Free soda dispensers
    -Free pizza on rainy days
    -Free big breakfast every Thursday
    -Smart people who have personality
-Company is growing (recently merged with Iron Data)
    -The sky is the limit!!!

    Cons

-Lots of bumps due to merger
-Dealing with multiple internal apps to track time, PTO and expenses
-Start of the loss of the "family" feel

    Advice to Management

Try and keep the MicroPact culture as long as we can (though at some point we'll be a BIG company, not a bigger company, and it won't be possible to maintain it as much as we'd like)
