I have been working at Microscan Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great work atmosphere where employees can expand and or enhance their skill sets. Management treats employees great and hard work is rewarded.

    Cons

There is nothing to say bad about this company. It's a small entity (200 employees) owned by a big company. Like any small entity, there is no buffers to hold for economic downfalls.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

    Pros

    good benefits, semi flexible hours

    Cons

There are a lot of politics and cliques. You're forced to take on way more then what you sign on for (with no additional compensation). They ask you to do something and if you do everything that they requested you are punished for not doing what they didn't mention.

    Advice to Management

Train for unity and communication, primarily in upper management.

    Pros

Better PTO than what I've seen so far.
    Steady work.
    Not very difficult.

    Cons

No potential for improvement or promotion at lower levels.
Felt like bar was too high to succeed, for how much I was getting paid.

    Advice to Management

Give people more opportunities to succeed, and they will not look elsewhere.

    Pros

There is opportunity to work overtime, but if you can't do it sometimes due to family needs, they will fire you, so make sure you can always be available for the overtime if you work here.

    Cons

Company culture is rather elitist with the special people separated from the grunts that work on the floor. Every month there is an employee of the month that is never someone from the floor. Management is negative and heavy handed, firing floor people often. Pay on the floor is low. Work is highly routine and boring. Very little room to grow and technicians that work on the floor can never work their way off of the floor. This place often hires engineering technicians but never hires them off of the floor. Very depressing place to work. The pay is low and raises are very small. To get a good employer rating the manager would coach people on what they should put on the form.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating people not on the floor as better than others. Pay better. Let employees progress and give them opportunity to advance and grow. Make use of the technicians you have on the floor in engineering so they have something to look forward to. Stop creating a culture of negativity and treat people with respect instead of looking down at them. Working at this company was the lowest point in my life. Just glad to be out of there.

I worked at Microscan Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are lots of interesting projects to work on, especially if you like optics and electronics. There are some talented and brilliant scientists doing cool things in machine vision.

    Cons

Overly focused on sales management since that is the CEO's forte. If you like marathon teleconferences several times a month this is the place for you.

    Advice to Management

Figure out how to really listen to your customers, especially when they disagree with you.

    Pros

    Leader in the market
Good place to work if you're a strong EE and good problem solver,
In the past it's been a good solid company to work for, I think management is in flux right now.

    Cons

Undefined culture, lack of leadership at the top.

    Advice to Management

Secure a leadership team that is able to build/maintain confidence in the market and with employees. Clarify your goals and strategy (both short and long term), increase/improve communication to employees so they have confidence in your vision and in you personally.

I have been working at Microscan Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Great team
    - Strong strategy
    - Feels like family
    - Goal/data-driven business
    - Global footprint
    - Tenure of key business drivers
    - Growing business
    - Acquisitions
    - Plenty of opportunities for career growth if you stretch/achieve

    Cons

    - Flat organization and not very deep in all functional areas
    - Takes a special type of person to thrive in this very fast environment
    - People that need lots of direction to execute do not last long or should not apply
    - Pockets not deep as compared to MSFT, AMZN, etc but ability to influence and impact business is significant at Microscan

    Advice to Management

Push back more on parent company as they push down many requirements that are difficult for the business to absorb.

I worked at Microscan Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The benefits package is strong. 401k with matching and no vesting period. HSA and life insurance options very competitive.

    Cons

Employees are not empowered to make decisions or take risk. Company is attempting to save it's way to growth rather than investing in resources from internal systems to new hires. Low risk tolerance and lack of leadership are evidenced by low growth compared to the competition. Many employees are performing multiple functional roles (like a start-up), without the potential reward or growth that makes people willing to do so.

    Advice to Management

People are a resource and should be treated with respect. Don't go through the motions of innovation, demonstrate you believe in a vision. Engage employees. Genuinely value and TRUST their input and ideas.
