Pros

Overall a great contractor, much of leadership tries to create a good culture where you don't feel like anyone is breathing down your back, co-workers support each other and most issues are handled well (i.e. no one is yelling at you for mistakes, it's more about learning). I am thankful I was part of a startup project a year or so ago and much of our higher up leadership got to know a few of us techs on it more personally. They were honest with us about how the project would go and took our feedback seriously. Great experience overall!

Cons

Some complain of the pay, but honestly it was always fair. Some regions just don't have much of a market so it's hard to be competitive, while some markets/ regions are and pay better. But honestly if pay is the only driving factor (while yes it's important) then you probably don't like most jobs out there. Sometimes management makes some cold remarks, but we all have our bad days, it isn't often

Pros

When I first started working for Milestone Technologies, I was overwhelmed with the information and technology pertaining to my position. But with great leadership and training I quickly learned skills that I have been able to carry with me throughout my different roles at the customer site. Those skills have helped me develop more understanding in other areas of the organization and be promoted within a relatively short period of time!

Cons

The stress of the responsibilities can be overwhelming some days. Especially when our client's inventory is vast and contains high-value materials. There is ALWAYS work to be done and it is often required to act with a sense of urgency...so sometimes just the pressure of getting the job done quickly can be stressful in itself.

Pros

Positive work environment - opportunity for advancement - good communications from management - fairly competitive starting pay if you don't take the recent spike in inflation into consideration - overall a very good benefit package if you have no spouse or dependents.

Cons

Salaries aren't keeping pace with inflation (not unusual in most companies given the current spike in cost of living across the country). The time-off package is lacking - sick/vacation pay is combined into "paid time off" and not super competitive, limiting rollover to 120 hours/year. This isn't sufficient considering your sick and vacation time is combined. The benefits are very expensive if you have children or a spouse.

Lack of moral principles - Although we agreed that this position was hybrid or onsite, about 3 months later, my position moved to remove status without my knowledge, approval and without any financial resource. Abuse of Power - How can the company simply assume that the employee is able to work from home without notice and without any support or assistance? You can also call this mistreatment, mishandling, misconduct or fraud. You decide. I think it's unacceptable and companies should be closely monitored for such abuse. No integrity - I interviewed for a project coordinator role. I had two job offers and I pursued Milestone. Once I onboarded and started the actual job, shock! I found myself doing data-entry. How did the manager address the situation? He said, and I quote, "it is the cost of doing business here." Unbelievable! Candidates! Be careful with the "Bait and Switch" practices here. The training at the client's site was very poor. Basically, they gave me a manual that I had to follow and the trainer was happy when I followed the steps without asking clarifying questions. No shadowing of any form took place. No performance indicators, no process for quality assurance.

The last six years it my life have been the most positive and career developing years of my life. I was able to work alongside some of the brightest minds in the tech industry, receive similar benefits, and even learn from them. Milestone was nothing but the middle man overcharging their clients and underpaying their employees. Milestone Technologies hindered the relationships and experience I would gain at any chance they would get. They would often interfere with the client’s direct requests, making our teams look bad. Their management team was so bad that contract managers would be rotated out to new contracts on a yearly basis because they could not fulfill the client’s request. If you are a working professional looking for career growth and opportunities, do not work here. The opportunities for career growth are EXTREMELY limited and recruiting will prioritize hiring externally for roles as opposed to promoting from within. Raises are few and far between with no feedback on how you can do better in the future.

You don't really work AT Milestone; you work FOR them. They place you at other companies in the Valley (and occasionally elsewhere), so your day-to-day experience is going to be at whatever company you're placed at, not Milestone. Milestone is just an "orifice"—reminiscent of how Steve Jobs described the phone carriers when he was developing the iPhone. They're a necessary evil, a middleman, a barrier between you and your work. They got you the gig, so now they feel entitled to a ridiculous percentage of your income. (Thankfully, they take that cut from the employer, not you.) They really don't DO anything. Again, they aren't terrible, but they aren't going to go out of their way to share the wealth with you, either. They're basically a typical Indian-owned company (and I say this as the child of Indian immigrant parents, so I'm allowed to say that). They don't HAVE to be a stereotype—I've done contract work for another Indian-owned company that chose to break the stereotype and be VERY generous with recognition, money, and gifts at their lavish holiday party—but sadly, that was an exception and not the rule. Milestone is pretty much . . . average.

Cons

Not a lot; they're about average. Not great, but at least they aren't terrible either. Honestly, you're not going to have to deal with them much after you're hired; they're just a middleman taking their pound of flesh from whoring—er, contracting—you out to a Silicon Valley company with more money than sense. (Hint: Meta is one of their clients.) Just lay low, collect the money, and switch to direct-hire (or just quit and go elsewhere) as soon as you can. It's what I'm going to do.
