I have been working at Moffitt Cancer Center full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I've been at Moffitt for over 10 years. The company is overall very nice to work for. The organization is generally low stress and has a good work life balance.

    Cons

The company is transitioning from a smaller Mom and Pop type organization to an Enterprise which comes with some growing pains.

I worked at Moffitt Cancer Center full-time

    Pros

Gives an opportunity to learn more about a cancer center, systems used and security aspects.

    Cons

Growth is slow. Management doesn't bother about your professional growth.
You are on your own. There is no concept of training. You are only trained on patient safety and HIPAA every year.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees. They are your real assets.

A lot of opportunists to move up the nursing ladder.

    Pros

Moffitt provides excellent care to its patients. Cancer is terrible and Moffitt makes dealing with such a bad situation much easier.

    Cons

Chief nursing officer and upper level nursing directors lack communication and have no understanding of daily requirements for taking care of such high acuity patients.

    Advice to Management

Go to the floor for 8 hours. Wear scrubs. Answer a call bell. Provide care and remember what a nurse does.

I worked at Moffitt Cancer Center full-time

    Pros

Great faculty, nice managers that cared about you as a person, great community, excellent benefits, wonderful patient population. i loved working here.

    Cons

Moffitt can grow, they same people have been at the top for years, and it doesn't entice much change to how things are run. Fresh blood is always good!

I have been working at Moffitt Cancer Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Reputation in the community and work with purpose.

    Cons

Disorganized culture with multiple broken systems that ‘support ‘ the infrastructure...which constantly break, thus its difficult to do jobs efficiently. Nothing is streamlined at Moffitt, everything is exhaustingly laborious and extra. Translational projects are virtually impossible to do because of a silo’d culture, nurtured by distrust and inefficiencies because of ....you guessed it...broken systems.

    Advice to Management

Hit pause, process check systems, throw out what’s broke, fix what’s salvageable, build systems that communicate and establish standard operating procedures that are enforced across the board. Seek an outside consultant to assist with streamlining clinic to research Translational projects that’s can expedite with bench to bedside operations and patient care. I gave 3 because mission and purpose and intention are great, you see Moffitt putting lipstick on the surface, trying. But it’s difficult to bring your best and execute at Moffitt. Moffitt prides itself in attracting talent from across the country, but struggles to present a cohesive organization once a new hire is onboarded and integrated, lots of silos to break into to do basic operational work...resulting in rapid loss of talent, and disenchanted new hires that have uprooted themselves to come to Tampa. From HR to research to clinic ops and IT, i believe Moffitt can do better.

I have been working at Moffitt Cancer Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Working to fight cancer with some of the top researchers in the country.

    Cons

Favoritism, lack of structure in certain areas

    Advice to Management

Upper management (directors on up) should make an attempt to know what is going with the employees that work under them. Be aware of issues and not checking off obxes
