Pros

A lot of work and responsibility Travel for site surveys Put together full project sets by yourself See a project from beginning to end Get paid overtime

Cons

Bad management and disorganization Constantly understaffed No mentoring nor opportunity for growth Cannot really rise nor be promoted within company Pigeonholed into a position (cannot be promoted from a Designer to anything but Project Manager) Pigeonholed on projects (if you're a member of the Starbucks team you will only work on Starbucks projects) No outreach with the architecture community, no activities or office events No resources for ARE Exam / No encourgement to become licensed Many disgruntled and overworked employees Members of the Starbucks team often have to work 50/60 hour weeks and come in on weekends Constantly in the office late at night to finish deadlines No break in between project deadlines (you will be working on a project set by yourself, when one project deadline is done, you move to the next project deadline) Large employee overturn Very few stay at company for over 2 years No laptops given out to designers, no opportunity to VPN Awful Coffee

Pros

It's a job in architecture

Cons

Where to begin? Understaffed as a way of doing business. Expect an awful work/life balance. Salaried so no overtime even though it was mentioned during interview. Never have I experienced such a massive turnover rate (you can see with the constant job posts). It's hard enough with your own insane work load but add in picking up the slack. As soon as you get done sprinting to hit a deadline, there's another deadline set. Constantly posting jobs for a reason....

Pros

There are no pros with this company.

Cons

I’ve been here for about a month and this place is the most unprofessional work environment I’ve ever been in. The culture is extremely toxic and their idea of “informal” is to put down others and criticize aggressively. Im currently in contact with HR to make the home office aware of how disgusting the people act in the Chicago office. Within two weeks of working here, two people quick because of the toxic culture. Unorganized. Boring work. Passive aggressive behavior. Frat-boy mentalities. No thanks. I’m so upset that I chose this firm over another one. I cannot wait to leave this place.
