Toxic company to work for. Worst decision in my career.

Pros

The employees you work with are the only positive thing this company has to offer. At least you have somebody to commiserate with over the toxic environment you have to work in. Sadly most have no idea they are being exploited, and those that do know are trapped in roles that make it very difficult to leave.

Cons

The company is a lifestyle company for the CEO. Everyone who works there does so to sustain his lifestyle. Employees are exploited. Compensation plans change monthly based on how badly the accounting is managed by senior staff. Your lifestyle will need to adapt, but the CEO's lifestyle never gets affected. You exist solely to subsidize the CEO. Lots of promises made by the CEO are left unfulfilled. Even if in writing, you will be let down again and again. With unfulfilled promises being replaced by new promises that things will "get better". They never do. As others have commented. Don't fall for the nice guy act. People are constantly pressured to do more work, fill in for gaps when peers are laid off. Lay offs occur frequently due to mismanagement of the budget and lack of any real business plan. What plan does exist changes daily because the company is so desperate for revenue. No investment in employees. No real HR team. Employee onboarding and training is a joke. (non existent) Very toxic environment to work in.

Pros

Being surrounded by committed people.

Cons

Watching the people around you getting ripped off by the CEO as he lines his pockets while slashing salaries and failing to deliver on promises made. It's a lifestyle business, that is all.

Pros

The pros of working here were being in a diverse arena of products, although none of them finished or polished. It was great to get a customer excited about buying something that sounded really cool. Because you were able to go to the CEO and explain your deal and he helped you "make-up" new features and options that would appease that customer based on their actual need. However to that point this was a fantasy land of non-existent technical minds, just creative souls. Its real easy to get a customer excited about a product that fits every angle of their need when you can just make it up as you go.

Cons

The cons of working here was always pre-selling features and ideas to customers that do not yet exist. The challenge was getting alignment from the actual company. While the CEO is a micro-manager and runs every department and oversees every deal like a hovercraft, he lives in a land where you can make things up and get customer alignment. However the rest of the company does not follow that beat. When you go to product management or technical sales/support, they will be very frank and tell you that what you are doing is wrong and will never happen. Therefore it is impossible to close the sale. So while your pipeline looks great you will never hit your number or make your quota as the features that you are selling will never come exists. The real drop on moral is when the CEO is not in the office the rest of the company flames and shames him and it defeats moral. The sales people are here trying to earn a living while the rest of the company thinks that the CEO management style aligns more with his personal interests in what toy to purchase next or vacation trip to take his family on. When he is not in the office the company talks a lot of bad about his style. The danger is that when he is in the office he can get very violent. He is aggressive and yells at people and threatens their take home pay. He has smashed and thrown things many times and gets very nasty in his communications. There is no management everything is babysit by the CEO of the company, it is impossible to succeed here. Every year the medical benefits get worse for the family, cost more with less options. There is no 401k matching. HR is non-existent and 0 opportunity for career growth. There is no training. An employee on-boarding process is non-existent and you literally fend for yourself. There is no expense reimbursement system, you need to fill out an excel and wait for the CEO to approve or deny your claim. Nothing is documented in any form where you can get anything done. Product Management does not support Sales because whats being sold can not be delivered. You will lose sleep over holding the carrot in front of the customer face and telling them that thinks are coming, meanwhile you do not have the confidence that they really are.
