I have been working at OCP full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The culture, the people, the mission, the benefits, the work / life balance. Employees work very heard and believe that their input is valuable.

    Cons

Nothing that I can think of.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing!

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at OCP full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Mission driven company, outstanding benefits, competitive pay (especially when considering total compensation with retirement, time off, great insurance, etc.), warm and family friendly culture.

    Cons

Hard to think of any. Like any job, it has its ups and downs, but much more positive keeps me engaged and wanting to stay here.

    Advice to Management

Continue to bring in good people, stay Mission-focused, and stay strategic in a rapidly changing world.

    Pros

Friendly co-workers, family-oriented, great supervisor, flexible hours

    Cons

Low wages/salary. Relies on mission of company to keep employees happy, versus tangible benefits
    Position was misclassified as non-exempt
Lack of opportunity. It took 4 years to get a promotion that amounted to a 2% pay increase
No separate sick leave, it's included in earned leave
I left employer on excellent terms, but HR will not allow my supervisor to be a reference for me.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at OCP full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

great colleagues, compensation average to above average

    Cons

senior management and most directors living in the past glory days of the company. have neither the vision nor the courage to take important and needed steps. they are unwilling (unable?) to let go of day to day decisions, so are ignoring their own responsibilities.

    Advice to Management

treat your employees as thought they have something to offer.

I worked at OCP full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Managers that care. Great coworkers. Quality products. They take care of their employees and pay pretty well. Benefits are good as well.

    Cons

OCP is a publishing company and recently had to lay off their print shop staff and sell the presses. they are currently outsourcing most of their printing work to save a lot on shipping and labor. Quality company in a dying market.

    Advice to Management

Keep up with the times and sell the products that will make money and keep you afloat. A digital product and sales model is the key to the future.

    Pros

In a word, the people. Musicians, printers, artists, writers, accountants, journalists, programmers, you name it, all working together in a unique environment. Most are there because they want to contribute something to the Church or work in nonprofits. Personal growth is valued, and there's a concerted effort by General Management to embrace change and include staff whenever possible. A plus? The building itself sits right next to Normandale Park, is near many great restaurants, and is centrally located to many parts of the metro area.

    Cons

The culture can be intimidating. Information is passed on on a "need to know" basis which can give the appearance of secrecy. Trust is hard to earn and not easily given between departments or management and staff (both directions). Opportunities for professional growth have been hard to come by in recent years.

    Pros

    Mission, family values.
Sense of purpose and importance to the work.

    Cons

The workload tends to be heavy.

    Advice to Management

The gap between staff and Sr. Management is much wider than you realize. You are doing too much "telling" and not enough "listening." Let the staff and internal leaders tell you how to get things done.
