    Family Run Company

Aug 6, 2021 - Senior Director of Human Resources in Madison, WI

    Pros

As a family run company, most family is in upper management. The CEO appeared to favor his family members and didn't empower the rest of his staff. As an HR professional, I had limited access to HR data. I had to ask a family member who I supervised by position for the data. The CEO spoke of wanting to change the company to grow and adapt to current workforce culture, but cited his previous archaic ways as the way the company operates. This severely limited the amount he was willing to staff other ideas that weren't his own. As a result of this, there was the most turnover I had ever seen in a company. The CEO was not interested in retention initiatives to keep current employees long enough to augment them with new employees. Instead, he focused on recruitment and thought he could out-recruit his turnover. That will never be a successful way to manage people.

    Cons

The CEO micromanages all aspects of the company and fails to use his non-family executive staff. The salaries are below market average for most executive positions.

    Former Leadership

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Good health insurance rates if you are full time. The long term employees have a compassionate demeanor and work ethic that is superior

    Cons

401K isn’t available with a match until after a year, short staffed, lack of consistent leadership team, pay for salaried/hourly employees is under market value for acquired competencies (knowledge, skill, abilities ). Overall, there isn’t an effective support system to cope with being short staffed. Salaried employees who aren’t compensated to work direct care are often times relied upon to work direct care. Training overall for all employees needs to be revamped and completed. (Processes and procedures aren’t communicated or followed proper). Overall, If oak park place wants to be provide exceptional care and be compliant with state/federal law; they will need to hire more qualified staff, revamp their training/review process, and pay acceptable wages.
