I have been working at Opera Software full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The Company has a tremendous "at bat" in an interesting space and fast growing emerging markets.

    Cons

The Company has split personalities between Oslo (browser) and San Mateo (adtech). Leadership is tactical rather than strategic and as a result the Company has a hard time being decisive and making bold moves.

    Pros

They've been able to successfully transform from browsers to mobile advertising

    Cons

Need to be more US centric

    Advice to Management

Keep up the transformation since Chrome & webkit continue to grow fast

    Pros

Flexible working hours that allow for a great work-life balance; good package of benefits (gym, food and drinks, free Norwegian course, travel insurance, good pension, corporate credit cards), good and friendly people to work with, very laid back atmosphere, global company with possibilities to move to other offices worldwide after one year; casual, meaning no dress code at all; Social activities are encouraged and funded/supported by the company (e.g. golf or similar activities)

    Cons

Quite unorganized, lack of proper communication, Norway (location of the HQ) is an incredibly expensive country to live in; bureaucratic problems for immigrants can occur, people sometimes work rather slow

    Advice to Management

Get organized and implement more discipline, change the way of communication into a more direct one

I worked at Opera Software full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Truly international in scope and reach, with a mostly HR-centric culture that values employees and delivers management training and feedback well. Nice offices, especially in Norway, and a collaborative and open culture with very little finger-pointing. Lots to do, and many resources with which to do it.

    Cons

Sometimes a little too European and slow-moving, particularly with regard to setting a direction and sticking to it and/or not shedding unpromising programs or projects quickly enough.

    Advice to Management

Work even harder at integrating Opera Software and Opera Mediaworks, which is admittedly not easy. Keep the people-centric, encouraging and respectful tone that you've been generally setting for years (from the CEO on down), and which was highly valued by me and my peers.

I worked at Opera Software full-time

    Pros

Life style is good, no much business and operational things to bother you. Engineers could concentrate on technical problems.

    Cons

Obviously there were some marketing issues during the last few years. Before iPhone and Android, Opera was #1 brand in mobile browsers. Yes, the iPhone and Android has the advantage of overwhelming power on the platforms, but still, it could not explain all the stories happened on Opera afterwards...

    Advice to Management

    Needs more marketing.

I worked at Opera Software full-time

    Pros

Small team, easy to coordinate, people are generally nice, trainings and capacity development, good pay

    Cons

Not many people with visions in the company, just bought by Chinese consortium, laid off quite many people globally, not sure with product directions with the new owner, finance team take a long time to do reimbursement or any financial process

    Advice to Management

Senior Management needs to show vision and direction on where's the company is heading and be more proactive in communicating this objective with employees
