I have been working at Operation Par full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Always busy. The field is changing in the right direction. PAR is a great company. The managers understand your needs and work with you. The counselors are always helpful when situations arise that you cannot handle alone. The front office tries their hardest to keep up but it can get hectic. Nurses are always doing their best to help out when they can. The place is always busy and it can be stressful, but that is the nature of the business I guess.

    Cons

There are no cons. I have learned so much since starting at this facility.

    Advice to Management

    Don't leave

I have been working at Operation Par full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Gives hope to patients. Theoretically sound practices. Counselors compassionate. Great vision.

    Cons

Management has disconnect from mission statement. Too many egotistical personalities in charge. Extremely low pay for counseling staff. No consistency in daily operations

    Advice to Management

Pay counselors more. Have operational procedures and maintain standards of operations for offices. Deliver the product you set out to do. Somewhere the vision got lost

I have been working at Operation Par full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

New Program Director at Spring Hill is knowledgeable, experienced, easy to access and talk to.

    Cons

Second -in -command, Program Supervisor, has unhealthy perspective re: clients. He sees clients as bad, not sick people in need of treatment. He creates drama where none exists. B/C he is in a Leadership position, he models this dysfunctional posture for Counselors. His Supervisor needs to confront and attempt to educate him. As of now, Clients and fellow Counselors attempt to avoid him.

    Advice to Management

Everyone working w/ addicts needs to attend Al-Anon on a regular basis. Clinical Supervision should be focused on case presentations by Counselors where feedback is given by all present. There is time to do one per week.

I worked at Operation Par full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay okay right out of school, friendly co-workers, good boss, easy job. I really liked my boss, he was professional yet we still got to have fun sometimes. I still miss working with him. The pay isn't great but I took this job right out of grad school and it was better than a lot of other companies. The counseling jobs are more case management than actual counseling, so if you're not quite ready for counseling then this is a great job to do mostly case management but still practice some counseling skills. For me this definitely wasn't a long term job, it was just to get some experience right out of school.

    Cons

hours (too early for my taste), too much drama, sometimes felt like I was in jr. high. Some of my co-workers didn't like each other and there was a definite divide. It was ridiculous. There was a ton of gossip but it was pretty easy to stay out of it. Some of the staff was professional, some was not.

    Advice to Management

The rules regarding clients were not at all consistent when I worked there, it seemed to depend more on how the doctor felt about each client. Keep things consistent so we know what to expect, apply the same rules to everyone.
