I worked at Pella full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Expense check every month to somewhat make up for your gas and toll expense. Still using your own car so not making up for the depreciation though. Health benefits and 401k plan.

    Cons

This place is such a joke. They don't care about their employees at all. They tell you "it's a family" meanwhile you can't even take care of your family with how they compensate. Way too many reps and not enough leads. The only time you're making money is when you're running around like an animal which isn't the norm. They give you a draw instead of a salary which is a complete joke for what they ask of you to do as an employee. As an installed sales rep you have to quote/sell jobs, order verify jobs/project manage jobs/collect the money if the customer is reluctant to pay. Oh an if anything goes wrong it's your fault and you will pay for it. The management in this company (minus a few good ones) are Terrible and need to be changed.

    Advice to Management

    Multiple commission plans.
    Less reps
    Better bonuses
    Better managers
Salary if you're gonna ask us to do more than our sales job

I have been working at Pella full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fun and relaxed work environment. Opportunities to advance if you want them and work hard. Not all branches are corporate owned but are small local businesses (sometimes a con).

    Cons

Unorganized and wavering goals as a company. Training is limited to none. Most people without the "I can do" or "I'll figure it out" drives fail or struggle. Some things are pushed under the rug allowing long time employees to basically run the place or do things like talk to managers without respect.

    Advice to Management

Set clear goals. Train for your department to succeed and decrease turn over. Don't allow things to be swept under the rug because you don't want to deal with it or because employees have worked there for a long time. Just because things have always been done a certain way doesn't mean they are correct or best.

I worked at Pella full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good product. Good name recognition.

    Cons

They don't value sales reps' time. Since this is a commission only sales job, they can hire as many reps as they see fit. The problem is when there are only enough leads for 3 sales reps to run, and they go ahead and hire 6. The manager ends up with a choice. Do I equally distribute the leads, so that everyone starves, or just go ahead and keep feeding the leads to my top guys, so I don't lose them, to heck with the rest of them.

    Advice to Management

Don't hire more sales reps then one needs for each to be able to make a healthy living. It is in humane to over-hire, letting talented reps starve, do to lack of opportunity. This, unfortunately seems to be routine, especially in those sales jobs that do not carry a salary.

    Pros

Company is very professional and has great marketing materials. They provided samples, a few leads but expect you to go out and root around for the business but they expect instant results.

    Cons

Management is not in tune with the market. They also have internal issues with their service department. While they talk about it there isn't any change.

    Advice to Management

Please, listen to your reps who are out in the field. Spend time with them, not just shouting orders and then beat them up if they don't achieve the results you wanted in a short time frame.
