I worked at Picturehouse Cinemas full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Free cinema tickets (although the use of these has become more strict as years go by) - A nice bonus scheme -Cycle to work scheme - Generous pension - Ability to be creative - Promotion of Indie film - The perfect job to do whilst studying or to get some money in quickly!

    Cons

It differs from cinema to cinema. I started off extremely happy at the Picturehouse I worked for, but the less control the original company seemed to have on its ethos, the less wonderful it was to work. Strict rules, below living wage pay, no room for progression and micromanagement ultimately became a reason why I left. I was also subjected to bullying tactics towards the end of my employment, but like I say, that was...

    Advice to Management

Please focus on films and individual cinema teams again. There's no doubt Picturehouse is one of the best cinema companies in the world and was founded by film lovers. It's not all about how much spend per head there is per cinema and the staff do not appreciate it at all. Also more room for progression - I personally applied for five opportunities at head office after working for the company for many years and wasn't...

I worked at Picturehouse Cinemas full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The holiday pay is more than fare but that is the extent of their generosity since the operational takeover by Cineworld. There are career opportunities but only if you don't express any opinions of your own.

    Cons

A bullying, fear-mongering atmosphere exists which trails from the top of the company to the bottom.

    Advice to Management

Cineworld don't need advice as they are performing exactly as they intend.

I worked at Picturehouse Cinemas full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good place to work, relaxed and friendly yet professional approach. Flexibility when it comes to rotas, managers are accommodating with this. Perks: watch films for free!

    Cons

0 hour contract, but you can ask for a minimum set hours contract: that option is available which is great. Lots of changes, some of which are due to takeover from Cineworld, which makes it more corporate-oriented.

I have been working at Picturehouse Cinemas full-time

    Pros

(Currently) very flexible hours, free tickets are great, WONDERFUL colleagues

    Cons

Dragonian upper management, treatment of staff varies wildly between sites, customers are awful and rude.

    Advice to Management

Some consistency would be great. I know you're busy but there's a lack of communication that is difficult to deal with sometimes. Please listen to us when we say we need more hours, rather than just hiring new people when there is already plenty of new staff.

I worked at Picturehouse Cinemas full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Met some great people along the way

    Cons

Well it's difficult to know who to write this under, Picturehouse or Cineworld considering they claim to be different companies but I can assure you they aren't except for a couple of SMALL departments like marketing and programming. The cinemas themselves are part of operations and that department is run by Cineworld regional managers. All senior site manger roles are filled by selected Cineworld managers who are in...

    Pros

Flexible working Like-minded, friendly staff Free cinema tickets

    Cons

The work environment at each cinema can be very different depending on the management, which can range from friendly to highly toxic. Cineworld are pushing more and more procedure and restrictive rules on staff, the culture shift since Cineworld took over Picturehouse has not been beneficial, even if it has meant more expansion for the company. The company promote themselves as being one of the most generous employers...

I worked at Picturehouse Cinemas full-time

    Pros

. unlimited free films . unlimited free popcorn . staff and family discount on other products sold (20%) . very good for over time, and for bringing in a really decent amount of money, they're always desperate/struggling for staff and like to overwork people, so you're guaranteed to earn at least between £850-£1,000 a month (which is very good for a customer assistant... lets be honest...), so if you're in need to...

    Cons

. not enough staff support . too many long hours with no break- they say you get "paid breaks" so they can get away with over working staff members as there's no record system to prove people have been on breaks- back to back 12 hour shifts several days in a row with no breaks? no wonder there's a high turn over of staff. . you're expected to manage on the smallest number of staff, which is impossible, especially during...
