Pros

After years of being overworked, underpaid, and under-appreciated, I made the leap to go fully remote and work as a full-time contractor for ProWritingAid in 2020. It was the best decision I could've made for my career, my family, and my overall well-being. They're a genuinely amazing company to work for. They've mastered the true remote culture, with employees in multiple time zones and continents. Communication, transparency, and trust are top-tier. The flexibility allows for a fantastic work-life balance, especially when managing familial responsibilities. I haven't had a case of the "Sunday Scaries" since joining this company, which is a true testament to the type of employer they are. I couldn't recommend them more.

Cons

As a US-based employee, figuring out benefits and shifting gears with paying quarterly estimated taxes will be the biggest hurdle. I'm privileged to be covered by my spouse's health insurance, so that hasn't been an issue for me. However, with the ever-rising cost of healthcare in the US, that can be a detractor for others.

Pros

- Some real talented colleagues who you can learn from (but can't deliver their best work due to the environment)

Cons

- CEO incapable of running the company. Imposes his own opinions on everything - Financial mistakes at top level led to a third of the company being made redundant overnight. - Toxic work culture - Employees made to feel their ideas are useless Edit: In reply to ProWritingAid's response to this post, whilst the industry is changing, the cause of layoffs was communicated to the team and it was not a strategic play. The response is another sign of management's inability to be honest and accept responsibility for their mistakes.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We sincerely regret that your experience was less than satisfactory, and we value the honesty in your perspective. We want to provide some context regarding the changes you've observed. Our industry is undergoing a significant transformation, heavily influenced by the advancements in Large Language Models (LLMs). These changes have compelled us to strategically refocus our efforts to stay competitive. It’s a tough reality, but these industry-wide shifts have led many companies, including ours, to make difficult decisions. For example, a similar company recently had to reduce its workforce by over 200 employees. We understand that the full scope of these strategic decisions might not be clear to every team member, and we are committed to improving communication and transparency moving forward.
