Weak leadership in Product and Tech

Pros

Friendly and approachable colleagues. Nice office location. Flexible working hours. Option to work from home if needed.

Cons

A Fintech company which is more "Fin" than Tech. Tight deadlines are given to deliver projects, and priorities could change at anytime overnight. Product and Tech are treated like delivery engines. Business does not understand the strain they are placing on PMs and tech teams with their lack of strategy and planning before starting a project. Ad hoc decisions and injections are ingrained in the company culture. Little to no career progression. Poor pension and employee benefits. No annual CPD budget. CTO hasn't been replaced and there is no strong leadership with passion and drive in technology to lead tech and product. Budget seems to be tight in this aspect and tech debt are mounting and often ignored by business. Weak and inexperienced team leads and managers are promoted and retained. Hiring for replacement is painfully slow and budget is tight. Company does very little to retain good employees and promote the wrong ones instead. Indecisiveness and weak leadership is a worrying sign. Play the "game", stay selfish and focus, brush shoulder with the right people and talk the talk within the company and you are likely to get promoted.

Pros

Great location. Occasional free coffee and fruit

Cons

Poor management is the worst thing about RateSetter in Sydney. Senior management don't care much about the employees. Stressful work environment. Salary is not great either. Your work is not appropriated unless it is outstanding. Managers mostly focus on negative and are critical of every little thing

Good place to learn

Pros

Opportunities are given to gain a vast array of exposure and take on real responsibility at the junior level. People are incredibly friendly and helpful.

Cons

No (above inflation) pay progression or cash bonuses, and the share scheme is simply a token gesture. There is a lack of senior level 'superstars' to drive the company forward and a bit of a 9-5 atmosphere at the moment.
