"Look Elsewhere - Don’t waste your time"

    StarStarStarStarStar

    Pros

Not many. Most of the people outside of “upper management” are nice people, as they’re just trying to get through the day at this god awful place.

    Cons

It’s extremely demanding especially if you’re at a branch other than the corporate office, as you’re on call 24/7 and do not have free time to devote to a life outside of work. If you complain about it, no solutions or help is given from upper management and you’re asked, in other words, to suck it up.

Upper management isn’t upper management. It’s one person who has his hand in every single little operational situation, leaving the flow of communication and any kind of normal business hierarchy to get extremely messy. You’ll be told to do something from a department head, then do that thing, just to be yelled at by the president. It’s a viscous cycle or poor management, poor miscommunication and constant mistreatment of employees. The president is extremely manipulative and will scheme his way through whatever to save the company (himself) money. There isn’t even an HR department, she quit because of the president. So good luck with help on anything from that standpoint If you decide to ignore this and work there. They haven’t even tried to hire someone else to fill that role, which shows exactly how they feel about their own personnel.

Also ignore good reviews. The president literally asked us to write good reviews to off set the poor ones. I’ve read every one, the positive ones are a joke probably written by the president himself.

Do NOT work here. There are plenty of good companies out there. Don’t give this company the opportunity to keep going.

    Advice to Management

None- just wait until the company falls apart

I have been working at Relay Express full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

When I find one I'll let everyone know.

    Cons

Shady business practices, incompetent and overbearing upper management, and a total lack of respect for employees and drivers.

Drivers - you will be "hired" no questions asked, because this company is desperate for drivers. Read on to find out why. You will be shorted money. You will not do the work you were contracted for. You will be held responsible for dispatcher and planner errors. You will have entire checks withheld when you eventually quit and Relay charges you for damages to the truck you were using, even if you didn't cause them. You will wish you never contracted with this company.

Employees - expect to be held to constantly changing standards while being treated like you are more of a liability than an asset. The president is a glorified salesman who gets involved in daily operations, and he's prone to fits of rage and childish temper tantrums. Relay is mismanaged from the top down. No vision for growth or the future. Drivers and employees leave in droves. This will not be your home. You will not retire from Relay. You will quit, be fired or they'll go out of business first.

Beware of positive reviews. Relay is now telling their employees to submit positive reviews online to offset all the negative reviews they receive.

    Advice to Management

You won't take it so I won't waste my time giving it.

I have been working at Relay Express full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Owners are involved in daily operations. Great benefits. A growing company with plenty of opportunities to advance your career.

    Cons

Constant growth in all departments occasionally creates stress when trying to assess new processes and get them in place.

    Advice to Management

Continue to promote mentoring and be transparent about your vision for the future of the company. There are more than enough long-term employees who believe in the company vision and appreciate the high-standards and the core values that have made the company as successful as it is.

I have been working at Relay Express full-time

    Pros

Flexibility, advancement opportunities, no micromanaging, great coworkers

    Cons

Not enough PTO. This industry can be incredibly demanding and get quite stressful at times, and employees should be allotted personal days to recharge and/or spend with family.

    Advice to Management

Do not put too much on one person, including branch managers. Keep up an atmosphere that thrives off of teamwork. Extend the length of the training program. Explore allowing employees to have more of a work/life balance. (Other employers in the industry offer up to 5-8 PTO days to use at the employee's leisure on top of vacation time).
