I worked at Romy (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great co workers. Great boss. Great clothing. Loved the customers for the most part. I loved my position a lot and I loved being in charge of the store. I got to work at two different stores and they both were great. The company itself was very small and always involved.

    Cons

The store was pretty new and not very well known so the traffic was extremely minimal and there was always a lot of downtime, even during holiday season. Not much product and sizes would run out extremely fast. Days went by really slow due to this.

    Advice to Management

    The store has closed.

I worked at Romy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

easy to move up in the company if you do a great job, discount was 40% off on top of whatever the current sale was.

    Cons

Upper management had showed favoritism towards certain employees. Training took a while since new stores didn't have policy books or training manuals. company gave little notice when deciding to close business.

I worked at Romy full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Clothes were cheap.. because they were cheap. Free money for clothes. I loved my coworkers. I even loved my DM and the other SM in my district. What I didn't like was the way the owner made us run his company.

    Cons

LOW pay on salary in a state where you are supposed to be paid overtime. They talked me into quitting my job of 7 years to work for their new up and coming company so I could open their first store in California. Little did I and my staff know that this was a lie. Right towards the end of my employment we found out that the company had previously had 3 stores throughout California that they closed years ago. They paid me flat salary and pressured me into doing so much work that I was in my store 50+ hours a week to get tasks completed, ended up making around $10 an hour some weeks. Then three months into my employment we got a phone call that they were shutting down every store 5 days later. That was all the time we got. No health care, unorganized, terrible technology, Small cheap clothes, talked to everyone about you if they didn't like you.

I have been working at Romy part-time

    Pros

Like most part time retail jobs, hours are flexible but can vary depending on the season. Because the store is small, associates shouldn't ever feel completely overwhelmed by the work load. Store management is very understanding and always willing to help you learn and grow.

    Cons

Hours vary, and often go under or over what you might want/need depending on the season. Corporate makes strange decisions often that can negatively affect the store or be counterproductive. The POS system is outdated and for people new to retail can be hard to learn/navigate at first. The pay scale is also rather low and doesn't necessarily correspond to employee responsibilities or level.

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

Corporate is pretty non-existant so there is a lot of flexibility within the store when it comes to marketing and visual merchandising.

    Cons

The pay scale is much lower than industry average and the company does not care about employee development as much as it cares about filling positions and trying to make their bottom line.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to focus more on employee development and creating a cohesive store environment. There is a lack of communication at times as well between upper management and store level.
