I have been working at SANDOW full-time

    Pros

I think most of the reviews on here are negative because there are a lot of bratty girls who work here with unrealistic expectations of what working life is like. This is a decent workplace. The company is big enough to offer great employee benefits but not too big that employees feel like faceless cogs in a machine. The office culture is energetic with healthy morale. The company seems to be doing well and people don't have to worry every day about losing their jobs. Managers are good at communicating with their employees and make them feel valued. The work life balance is very healthy too.

    Cons

There isn't a lot of diversity. Most employees are white females which is strange since the office is located in one of the most diverse cities on the planet.

    Advice to Management

Don't make the employees who earn under 40k sign-in and out at the front desk every day, It's embarrassing for them.

    Pros

    Great office space.
    Great work/life balance

    Cons

This company lacks so much diversity. All they want is blonde haired white women. The CEO, Adam Sandow posts with a variety of ethnic groups on social media (mostly AA) but like most companies, does not hire very qualified AA individuals.

They want to keep a certain image and in doing so you eliminate other qualified individuals.

    Advice to Management

It's 2017 get off your high horse and realize that there are other talented individuals.

    Pros

Fun environment, modern looking interior, lots of young employees

    Cons

No opportunities for growth and development. If you're just starting your career, management will take complete advantage of you - prepare to take on responsibilities you never saw in the job description (i.e. getting lunches, making personal appointments and running personal errands). And don't expect a thank you.

    Advice to Management

Try and understand that those newer in their careers look up to you and try not to make them feel like they aren't an important part of the workflow.

I worked at SANDOW full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - There's a free Starbucks in the office. Free coffee is always a great perk, even though the Barista lacks customer service skills. Some people get their coffee outside to avoid the free Starbucks moody service, especially on a Monday morning (Nobody wants that).

    - Most co-workers are friendly.

    - There's a lot of sweets randomly (cupcakes, cookies & cake) if you are into that.

    Cons

    - You can't be as creative as you would like, there are limitations. Most of the projects will look the same. To be fair, which that is understandable if you are working under one brand. Working there was a good experience, although there's a time limit a designer can stay there till they feel like a numb non-creative robot that's following orders to move a text box 2 pixels down then 1 pixel up. This is great for a GD intern, someone with 1 1/2 years works experience max that's growing their portfolio a little, or someone who just wants a paycheck.

    - No room to grow in the company as a graphic designer.

    - I agree with the other Glassdoor reviews, this company is not diverse. The majority are females (mostly white), with a sprinkle of a few Asians, and I can't even count the black employees on one hand (for all the brands under Sandow - NY location). Maybe the hiring managers subconsciously gravitate on what feels personally comfortable to them? It's an odd mystery.

    - Also heard that the HR department has been making people write fake positive reviews on Glassdoor, so the authentic score is scary low!

    - Last minute projects will pop up with short deadlines, while you are working on other last minute projects.

    Advice to Management

If you want to keep designers, sit down and understand the workflow of a graphic designer.

    Pros

Beautiful publications! Talented editors! Beautiful office. Sadly Sandow is a very dysfunctional environment. Lots of turn over and many current employees searching for a new jobs.

    Cons

Sandow is lacking in culture, ethnicity and originality. Lots of young white catty and competitive girls. Lots of gossip and petty behavior. Lots of nepotism. Very toxic environment. All of the positive reviews are written by HR or junior staff forced to do so by their supervisors.

    Advice to Management

Stop writing fake positive reviews. Spend your time listing to your employees. Actions speak louder than words.

I worked at SANDOW full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Depending on the individual team, there are great opportunities to grow from an entry-level position and take on challenges beyond what you were hired to do. I was lucky to have a fantastic manager and am still close friends with everyone who was on my team even though we have all moved on by now.

    Cons

There were some tough political dynamics among staff at some of the magazines, and aside from periodic happy hours many of the departments didn't really mingle much.

    I worked at SANDOW full-time

    Pros

-NYC & Boca Raton offices have nice amenities

    Cons

    - managers are micromanagers even though they claim they aren't
    -poor training
    - Lack of job function definition because managers actually have never done the job.
    - Lack of knowledge of the Aesthetic market that they operate in
    - Too pricey of a service for what customers are actually getting
    - Management isn't open to knew ways to reach customers

    Advice to Management

-Change the strategy and services of what's actually being offered so the customers clearly understand, " What's in it for me?"
    - Have managers who've actually done the job so they can relate other than saying we need to hit our numbers

I worked at SANDOW full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The products are nice. Quality publications.

    Cons

The people managing here are "hacks" who have bounced around the media world. It's amazing that they have all seemed to congregate here! I have never met a manager or "executive" that could even attempt to do my simple job. Highly incompetent people in positions of leadership, planning and direction.

    Advice to Management

For starters: STOP POSTING FALSE REVIEWS! Anyone that's worked here knows anything "positive" was created by H.R. or one of "the hacks" in "management." Second: LEARN how to do the jobs of your subordinates so that goals and objectives are realistic. Lastly: Realize that you are NOT and will never be Conde' Nast, Fairchild or Time Warner--you're Sandow Media from schlumpy FL!
