    I worked at ST Kinetics

    Pros

Get to SEE things that you don't normally see, such as defense projects, etc. They have some nice people, and they are all very friendly.

    Cons

Do not get to do anything as an intern regarding these cool projects probably because of security clearance. Slow pace of work with lots of waiting around. Worked on programming without any internet access. Security red zone makes you unable to carry around smartphones, flash drives, computers, tablets, so there was absolutely no access to internet.

I have been working at ST Kinetics for more than a year

    Pros

Stable job. You don't have to worry about losing this job, as they will not fire you unless you really screwed up big time (and probably multiple times before they ask you to leave). Aging workforce, so plenty of opportunities for younger staff to develop and advance as elder staffs start going into retirement. Benefits for perm staff is freaking awesome, company shares, 28 days of medical leave, 1 day of family...

    Cons

As it is stable job where company will not ask you to leave unless you screwed up big time, many staff will not really put in their effort in their work, making it very hard and tiring to work with them. They are in the state of "the less I do, the less errors I make". Aging workforce that is about to retire, but they refuse to retire as the pay and benefits (especially company shares) they are getting are too good...

    Advice to Management

Learn to reward those putting in effort and performing. Don't do that, and you can continue wondering why the young staff turnover rate is so high while the older staff sits so firmly at their position despite them going to retire in a few years. Stop promising new contract staff that you will convert them if their performance is good, as you are obviously not doing so. Saying that to cheat a new hire to work for you...

I have been working at ST Kinetics full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Work is challenging, especially in the robotics and commercial business areas. Opportunity to work on and lead projects from start to end, i.e. business development, budgeting, design & development, field testing, marketing, etc, in short time frames.

    Cons

Little work-life balance; work load not distributed evenly across staff. Some departments have it better than others.

    Advice to Management

Focus on a few product ranges and make it successful, instead of jumping all over the place to work on whatever is the in thing at that moment.

    Pros

    - large shiny office, own hidden cubicles

    Cons

    - staff are all detached from the real world - Poor worklife balance for those who care - restructuring seems to happen every few mths

    Advice to Management

    - defense projects and commercial projects are different and we need to change our attitudes if we want to be successful commercially!
