I have been working at Schenck full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Managers are treated with great respect. More so than with other public accounting firms (I worked at two others) If you have ideas and are willing to share them, leadership sits up and listens. Accountants are also treated very nicely. Great fellow team members. Leadership has a commitment to investing into developing people and future leaders. The people are what really drew me to Schenck but the flexible work schedules, competitive pay, focus on life friendly work environment and great training programs, are what has kept me here.

Benefits such as flexible work schedules, dress for your day, etc are supported by all areas of the firm (top down) and team members are encouraged to take advantage of the perks. Life friendly environment is very real here. Hours are pretty reasonable for public accounting with a great new understanding of chargeable and non-chargeable hours goals. They support non-charge time for growth and development.

Pay and benefits is meaningful. Each year, team members are consistently recognized for great work. Salary increases are very respectable and bonuses are generous.

Overall, friendly culture, positive attitude environment (especially in Tax), strong training for technical development by being brought in on complex issues and most of the shareholders have a roll up the sleeve attitude. They truly "walk the talk." They do what they say and so much more.

    Cons

I've gained ten pounds since joining. They take pretty good care of us.

I have been working at Schenck full-time

    Pros

Flexible schedule and very friendly people in the Appleton office.

    Cons

Some portions of the business are split and the people don't interact much but it is a focus to change that.

I worked at Schenck (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I worked in Appleton office for 3 years. They are very professional and concerned about doing things right.

    Cons

They are very arrogant and think no other firm quite measures up to them. Way too many shareholders. Each shareholder is way too concerned with how you can make them money. I prepared returns for one partner where the job took an hour. He charged the client thousands of dollars and complained that I spent too much time on the return. That was enough to make me look elsewhere. They can be very petty and backstabbing and very demeaning to their employees. About 1/3 of their employees leave each year especially middle and upper levels.

    Advice to Management

    Get a clue.

I have been working at Schenck (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedules, room to move around to different areas, close to restaurants and shopping for your lunch break, easy to find

    Cons

Always busy, concerns aren't listened to, management doesn't appreciate those doing the work, boasting about what the client pays for them vs us, TERRIBLE insurance. If you're sick, don't bother.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees

I have been working at Schenck full-time

    Pros

Good benefits and many opportunities to develop and grow. Majority of people are easy to work with. Produce a quality work product for clients.

    Cons

Long hours and high degree of stress during tax season, but that comes with the job. Somewhat negative culture at times. Tax department is treated like a service department for the rest of the firm, so work is sometimes dumped on them with unrealistic expectations.

    Advice to Management

Listen to staff for new ideas and innovation. Get input from staff on ways to improve processes and procedures. Office was understaffed for some time, but management has done a good job at improving this.

I have been working at Schenck full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Schenck provides a good salary and benefits package with a lot of opportunity for advancement. Travel is all in state so you're not constantly living out of airports and hotels.

    Cons

As with any CPA firm, tax/audit season can be draining, but this is made up for by being very flexible during the rest of the year with PTO.
