I have been working at Sony Creative Software full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

smart co-workers, interesting projects, good pay & benefits, good tools for development and remote work, stability of a big company.

    Cons

subject to whims of Japan (layoffs, etc)

I worked at Sony Creative Software (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Changed music and video production by democratizing the tools needed to produce media at a professional level.

    Cons

Company no longer exists; management lost focus on the core, revenue-generating products and spent time either neglecting the cash cows or branching into niche markets.

    Advice to Management

To the new owners of the SCS product line, MAGIX: you've acquired some of the most dedicated product users in the industry. Don't neglect them.

I have been working at Sony Creative Software full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of empty offices so you can just spread out and relax and blast your music without annoying anyone.

    Cons

This place had really cool products that they were developing. They decided to try to create a next generation of software, but forgot to include users in the development process and as a result they failed miserably. On top of not producing anything a customer would want, they ended having to support the desires of the hardware groups in Japan instead focusing on the software that could actually make this group money. They've pretty much laid off everyone with the exception of a small group of engineers who are only in a supporting roll for the group in Japan. Currently, management has completely stopped communicating with the engineers leaving us scratching our heads about our future. At least we know how our customers feel as they've all been left in the dark as well. With the exception of a couple people, those of us left are all looking for new jobs. Nothing to stick around for anymore.

    Advice to Management

Sell the intellectual property to someone who will want to do something with it and then just close shop.

I worked at Sony Creative Software full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people in the engineering team are friendly, helpful, and overall, extremely talented. Teams are small, individuals have lots of responsibility, but can also make a significant impact. Work/life balance is good. Madison is a great town.

    Cons

Management seems risk averse, and as if their strategy is simply to cling to the products which have generated revenue in the past. If Sony is going to slow its slide into irrelevance, someone in management is going to have to exhibit real vision and leadership.

    Advice to Management

Empower your engineers. They have great ideas, but they need the time and resources to work on them.

I worked at Sony Creative Software full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some great co workers, very flexible with vacation and sick time if you use it.

    Cons

Poor managment, layoffs, aging IT infrastructure, high pressure to do more and more for less pay

    Advice to Management

Need to communicate more between departments. Need to reward the most dedicated employees with proper raise instead of promoting the worst employees.

    Pros

    - Each department; from customer service to IT to marketing to engineering, is made up of friendly, hard working individuals.
    - There is room for career expansion.
    - Team oriented.

    Cons

    - Occassional communication breakdowns between departments.

    Pros

Work with great people on a really great product. Lots of freedom to explore new technologies and people are very open to listening to new and different ideas.

    Cons

There could be better communication between parts of the company although I feel that is improving. Sony has had a rough year and some decisions that get made at the corporate level shouldn't really apply for everyone.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing a lot of the stuff you're doing now. Keep working to improve communications and being creative and sharing. Continue to hire more people.

I have been working at Sony Creative Software full-time

    Pros

Really was a great place to work

    Cons

Sold the software that made this company what it was and leadership under this transition has been non-existent making those that had to leave feel undervalued for all their service and dedication and those that were left behind feeling they had no direction.
