Toxic Company

Pros

I liked some of my coworkers.

Cons

Terrible company to work for. The culture is toxic. Management turnover is constant, we had 3 different GMs over the course of one year. And many of the managers who are there manage based on fear. For example, this is a company where you are discouraged to talk to your own coworkers as they walk by so as to not be seen by management as unproductive. Humans are treated like machines, solely valued for their output. It would be hard for me to recommend a company less. I have a piece of advice to job seekers looking at Sundyne for employment: keep looking.

Pros

The best thing about Sundyne is that their benefit package is incredibly stout. Healthcare was mediocre, but sufficient. Options for an FSA or an HSA, everything was through Cigna. Had a couple of claims that were promptly taken care of, no complaints, no fuss. PTO was second to none. Typically got between 13-14 paid holidays over the course of the year in addition to 2 weeks of vacation (up to 3 weeks at 5 years, and incrementally increasing), one week of sick time (that carried over) and the ability to buy an additional week of vacation for the calendar year. The purchased week would get paid back as a pseudo Christmas bonus if you didn't use it. There are some incredible humans and employees within the company. The amount of knowledge you can gain by knowing the right people in the office as well as the shop floor was limited only by what you could take in. There are multiple patents for products that came directly from people who sat next to you, and the people who created those were more than happy to share everything they knew. The company is established, it's got great financial backing, they never fired people without good reason. The safety team is spectacular. ISO certified for 9001 and 14001. There is a fitness center available for use, and there is a "leisure activity committee" that you can buy into.

Cons

You will never be trained. Sink or swim. If you want a promotion, you need to be horrible at your job, so they promote you out of your current position. If you prove your worth in a spot, be prepared to stay there forever. Don't even think about a step up in your current job description, once you sign, that's where you stay. Upper level management have zero idea about how the job process goes, and they have tunnel vision. The second they see a dollar sign on a quote, that is the only thing they care about ever again. If you get in the way of that dollar sign, be prepared to have someone breathing down your neck. You are a number the second you sign the papers. Don't expect to ever know the GM's name, just be prepared for a tongue lashing if you don't meet the GM's expectations. Any good ideas you may have will largely be ignored. The quality system in place is rigid, and takes incredible amounts of work to change, so improvements fall on deaf ears. The system covers everything from standard works for almost every process from quoting all the way down to shipping and everything in between. You can barely soak up a spilled cup of water without having to file a safety form. Your success will never be acknowledged. You exist to produce a product, and will be reminded of that fact daily. Get back to work.

The Honest Truth

Pros

Great people work at the Dyne and many of them will go out of their way to make you feel like a part of their family. You will be asked as an employee to write a great review for Sundyne.

Cons

You name it- back stabbing, good ol’ boy upper management mentality runs rampant. Employees are constantly fearful for their jobs. The GM today is typically gone tomorrow. Engineers and Project Managers are often forced to toe an ethical line with customers when profits are in jeopardy. Bottom line, this company does not care how loyal you are as an employee when they are done with you, your laid off. In Five years I witnessed more layoffs at this one company than all my years in oil and gas combined. Only accept a job at Sundyne as a last resort.
